Gets call-up to majors Atlanta recalled Tarnok from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday.

Impact Tarnok becomes the third pitching prospect to join Atlanta within the past few days, after Kyle Muller and Bryce Elder were previously called up and then optioned back to Gwinnett following spot starts against the Marlins over the weekend. Atlanta hasn't immediately announced its plans for Tarnok, but if he isn't needed out of the bullpen Tuesday or Wednesday, he could be called upon to make a spot start Thursday against the Mets or Friday against the Astros if neither Max Fried (concussion) or Kyle Wright (arm) is ready to make his next turn through the rotation. Between stops at Gwinnett and Double-A Mississippi this season, the 23-year-old Tarnok has produced a 3.63 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 101 strikeouts over 89.1 innings.

Impact Tarnok earned the bump up to Triple-A after he overcame a brief rough patch in late May and early June to deliver a 1.90 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 37:9 K:BB across 23.2 innings in his final six outings with Mississippi. The 23-year-old right-hander is one of Atlanta's top high-level pitching prospects, but a 2022 MLB debut likely won't be in the forecast unless he pushes the door down at Gwinnett and if the big club's starting pitching depth is tested by injuries.

Ties career high with 12 Ks Tarnok gave up two runs on four hits and a walk over five innings Thursday for Double-A Mississippi, tying his career high as a professional with 12 strikeouts.

Impact The right-hander got stronger as the start progressed, and Tarnok fanned eight of the final nine batters he faced while striking out the side in the fourth and fifth innings. The 23-year-old had a shaky start to the season, but over his last five appearances he's posted a 2.55 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 31:7 K:BB through only 17.2 innings. Tarnok has yet to put everything together after being the 80th overall pick in the 2017 Draft, but his fastball sits in the mid-90s and his curveball has flashed plus, and he may still have some development left in his athletic 6-foot-3 frame.

Pitching Wednesday at Double-A Tarnok will make his season debut for Double-A Mississippi on Wednesday against Biloxi.

Impact This is essentially just reassurance that Tarnok is healthy, despite the fact he has not pitched yet since being optioned to the minors. It was originally reported that Tarnok was sent to Triple-A, but he was reassigned to Double-A last week. He has a very high ceiling, particularly if he can improve his third-pitch changeup.
