Impact It appears Fermin avoided a concussion after taking a foul tip off his mask Thursday, but he will ultimately still have to spend time on the IL, and the timing of the injury will keep him on the shelf through the All-Star break. Luis Campusano (toe) was reinstated from the injured list in a corresponding move and will presumably split reps behind the plate with Rodolfo Duran for the remainder of the first half.

Removed after foul tip off mask Fermin was removed from Thursday's game against the Dodgers in the fifth inning after taking a foul tip off the mask, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Impact Fermin, of course, spent time on the 7-day IL last month after he was concussed when a warmup pitch struck him in his mask. Prior to exiting Thursday, Fermin went 1-for-2 at the plate with a double. Rodolfo Duran replaced him at catcher.

Impact Fermin won't be available for at least the Padres' next six games after he was diagnosed with a concussion following his early exit in the team's 9-3 win Saturday, when he was hit in the mask by a pitch prior to the sixth inning. San Diego called up Blake Hunt from Triple-A El Paso to provide another healthy body behind the plate behind Rodolfo Duran, who will handle catching duties in Sunday's series finale in Baltimore.
