Serving as sixth starter Lauer will serve at least temporarily as the Brewers' sixth starter and will get the ball Monday against the Reds, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Impact The Brewers are in the middle of a 16-day stretch with no off days and want to give their starters some extra rest, so they'll turn to Lauer for a start or two. The lefty has made four starts and three relief appearances this season, posting a poor 4.82 ERA despite a solid combination of a 27.0 percent strikeout rate and a 7.4 percent walk rate.

Shifts to bullpen Lauer tossed four innings of long relief Wednesday in the Brewers' 7-3 loss to the Reds, giving up two runs on two hits and four walks while striking out six.
Impact Lauer had started in both of his prior two appearances, but after he was tagged for seven runs in just two innings in his June 1 outing versus the Tigers, the southpaw no longer looks like he'll be part of a six-man rotation. Instead, he was summoned from the bullpen to eat innings after Wednesday's starter, Brett Anderson, was hit hard before being pulled for a pinch hitter in the top of the fourth. Most of Lauer's future relief opportunities are likely to come in low-leverage spots or mop-up situations.

Impact Lauer was recalled from Triple-A Nashville prior to this start, and he performed well both from the mound and with his bat. None of the four hits he surrendered went for extra bases, and he also racked up an impressive 14 swinging strikes across 85 total pitches. Lauer also provided the only offense for the Brewers, slugging a solo homer in the third inning.
