Up as third catcher
The Rockies recalled Romo from Triple-A Albuquerque on Monday.
Impact
It will be the first stint in the majors this season for Romo, who has slashed .264/.329/.409 with seven homers over 60 games in 2025 at Albuquerque. He will serve as the Rockies' third catcher during the final month.

ROTOWIRE
Back in action for Triple-A club
Triple-A Albuquerque reinstated Romo (finger) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.
Impact
Romo didn't play Tuesday in Albuquerque's 7-6 loss to Reno, but the 23-year-old backstop is healthy again after a finger injury sidelined him for the first seven weeks of the season. He was cleared to report to Albuquerque after going 3-for-16 with a walk, a stolen base, two runs and an RBI over five rehab games in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

Dealing with finger injury
Romo is not on the Triple-A Albuquerque roster to begin the season as he is being evaluated for a finger injury, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.
Impact
Romo entered spring training projected to make the Opening Day roster, though Hunter Goodman performed extremely well to claim the backup job. The severity of the issue is unclear, but Romo should make an appearance in the majors at some point in 2025, assuming he isn't sidelined for a lengthy period.

ROTOWIRE
Demoted to Triple-A
The Rockies optioned Romo to Triple-A Albuquerque on Wednesday.
Impact
Romo's demotion likely solidifies Jacob Stallings and Hunter Goodman as the Rockies' catching tandem heading into Opening Day. The 23-year-old Romo already appears major-league ready from a defensive standpoint, but the Rockies would presumably like to see him show more improvement with his plate skills before giving him an extended run in the big leagues as their No. 1 catcher. Romo hit .297 with 14 home runs while striking out in just 17.8 percent of his 370 plate appearances at Albuquerque last season, but he languished upon getting his first big-league call-up in mid-August. Over 53 plate appearances with the Rockies, Romo hit .176 with a 3.8 percent walk rate and a 34 percent strikeout rate.

Likely to start in Triple-A
Romo is likely to begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Albuquerque, Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post reports.
Impact
Manager Bud Black has praised Romo for his improvement in blocking skills and in managing a game this spring. However, Saunders suggests that the Rockies will opt to keep Hunter Goodman on the Opening Day roster thanks to his superior skills as a hitter. Even if Romo begins the season in the minors, there's a strong chance he'll be in Colorado at some point in 2025.

ROTOWIRE
Struggling to find playing time
Romo is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Tigers.
Impact
Romo has now picked up just two starts in the Rockies' last seven games. With Jacob Stallings and Hunter Goodman also on hand as options at catcher, Romo is unlikely to see steady enough playing time over the final two weeks of the season to make for a reliable fantasy option, even in NL-only leagues.

Sitting Sunday
Romo is absent from Sunday's lineup against Milwaukee, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.
Impact
Romo has gone 0-for-12 with six strikeouts over his last four outings, and he will begin Sunday's game on the bench. Hunter Goodman will serve behind home plate and bat eighth against Brewers right-hander Freddy Peralta.

Sitting again Friday
Romo is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Yankees.
Impact
For a fourth straight game, Colorado will be facing a left-handed pitcher. Romo started the first two matchups with southpaws but will yield to Jacob Stalling behind the dish Friday for a second consecutive time. Romo is 1-for-11 with six strikeouts since being called up Aug. 16.

Getting rest Thursday
Romo is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Nationals.
Impact
Romo started behind the plate both of the past two nights, so he'll be given a breather as the Rockies wrap up their series in Washington with a day game. Jacob Stallings will enter the lineup as the Rockies' starting catcher.

ROTOWIRE
Getting another start Wednesday
Romo will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's contest versus the Nationals.
Impact
Romo didn't start the Rockies' first game after being called up last Friday, but he's now been in the lineup for three of four contests since then and tallied his first major-league hit in Tuesday's game. Jacob Stallings still seems likely to play plenty, but if he or Romo winds up distinguishing themselves as far as playing time goes, it will likely be the switch-hitting rookie.

ROTOWIRE
Tallies first career hit
Romo went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts Tuesday against the Nationals.
Impact
Romo was called up to make his big-league debut Friday and has since made two starts. He collected his first big-league hit Tuesday, and he also notably was caught stealing. Romo had only three stolen bases with Triple-A Albuquerque prior to being recalled, but he did show an ability to steal bases in the lower levels of the minors. If he reintroduces stolen bases to his game at the big-league level, he could be an intriguing option in deeper leagues down the stretch.

Contract selected
The Rockies selected Romo's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.
Impact
The switch-hitting Romo earned his first big-league promotion after hitting .297/.339/.499 with 14 home runs and three stolen bases over 85 games this season with Albuquerque. He and Jacob Stallings will form the Rockies' catching duo down the stretch following the release of Elias Diaz.

ROTOWIRE
Poised for big-league promotion
The Rockies are expected to call up Romo from Triple-A Albuquerque prior to Friday's game against the Padres, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Romo, who turns 23 later this month, has slashed .297/.339/.499 with 14 home runs and three stolen bases over 85 games this season with Albuquerque. With Elias Diaz expected to be released, the switch-hitting Romo will at least share catching duties with Jacob Stallings and could receive the bulk of the reps behind the plate.
