Lands back on 7-day IL Rom was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Memphis on Monday with an undisclosed injury.

Impact Rom began the season on the IL as he worked his way back from left shoulder surgery. It's not clear whether he's encountered a setback with the shoulder or is dealing with a new issue. Rom allowed six runs over just 2.2 innings in his last start with Memphis.

Impact Rom made a rehab start with Memphis on Sunday, tossing four scoreless innings with a 4:2 K:BB. Coming back from soreness in his surgically repaired left shoulder/biceps, Rom yielded only two runs (one earned) with a promising 17:2 K:BB across 13 rehab innings. He'll give St. Louis rotation depth at Memphis.

Impact Rom missed all of the 2024 season with left biceps tendinitis which eventually required surgery, and he experienced a setback in February when he felt shoulder discomfort. The southpaw allowed just two runs (one earned) with a 13:0 K:BB over nine innings in his three rehab outings with Palm Beach. Rom is no longer on the Cardinals' 40-man roster, but, if healthy, could give the organization some much-needed rotation depth for a Memphis team that's dealt with its fair share of injuries.

Impact Rom had been considered fully recovered from the arthroscopic surgery he had last May but has now encountered a setback. He'll rest for a few days after being given a PRP injection before a decision is made regarding when he can resume throwing. Rom was removed from the Cardinals' 40-man roster earlier in the offseason but is in camp as a non-roster invitee.

Impact The Cardinals added some prospects to the 40-man roster as Rule 5 draft protection, so Rom was a roster casualty. He had arthroscopic shoulder surgery in May and did not pitch at all in 2024. If he's healthy this spring, he should provide rotation depth at Triple-A.

Impact Rom hasn't done any throwing since late March after being diagnosed with left biceps tendinitis and has not responded well to plyometric exercises. The Cardinals are hoping to get a clearer picture on Rom's status following Tuesday's visit.

Impact It was certainly a better performance from Rom after he allowed eight runs (six earned) across 3.2 innings in his big-league debut. Still, the rookie left-hander took a second loss as the Cardinals offense couldn't crack Aaron Nola in a 3-0 defeat. Rom had shown some promise in the minors this season, working to a 2.70 ERA while striking out 45 over his last seven Triple-A starts (33.1 innings). Sunday's outing could earn him another shot in the Cardinals' rotation -- Rom would currently line up for a home matchup with the Pirates next week.
