Impact Though Elias Diaz will start Wednesday and has largely dominated the playing time behind the plate since the All-Star break, Nunez looks to have turned the catcher position into more of a timeshare of late. Nunez picked up his fourth start in seven games in Tuesday's 12-3 loss, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout. Neither Diaz or Nunez likely profiles as the Rockies' long-term solution at catcher, so the 63-76 club may be content to split reps between the two as it plays out the string on another losing season.

Impact Nunez has slashed .267/.353/.800 over his last five starts, but it's probably too late for him to usurp Elias Diaz as the Rockies' No. 1 catcher. Diaz is maintaining an .894 OPS since the All-Star break and has proven far more adept at making consistent contact against big-league pitching than Nunez. Since the start of the 2019 campaign, Nunez's 35.5 percent strikeout rate is the 12th-worst mark in MLB among all players who have logged at least 250 plate appearances.
