Impact Despite going 2-for-5 with a run scored in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Orioles to end a 1-for-12 slide at the plate over his previous five games, Vierling will head to the bench for the series opener in Milwaukee. Kerry Carpenter will fill in for Vierling in right field while Miguel Cabrera occupies Carpenter's usual designated-hitter spot.

Tyler Nevin - Back on bench versus righty Nevin is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Brewers.

Impact Nevin had started in three of the Tigers' past four games -- all against right-handed pitchers -- but he'll head back to the bench for Monday's series opener. With Javier Baez moving past a minor finger injury and Zach McKinstry swinging a hot bat of late to at least temporarily earn himself more reps against right-handers, Nevin may have to settle for a short-side platoon role in the Detroit infield.

Impact McKinstry will be making his third consecutive start in the middle infield and appears to have at least temporarily captured a regular role while he's one of the few Tigers swinging a hot bat at the moment. Over his last eight games, McKinstry has gone 7-for-20 with two home runs, three doubles, four RBI, four runs and a stolen base.

Javier Báez - In Monday's lineup Baez (finger) is in the Tigers' lineup Monday in Milwaukee.

Impact Baez had to depart Sunday's game against the Orioles due to swelling in his left middle finger, but he's back out there a day later. The veteran shortstop is off to a dreadful .203/.253/.246 start at the dish this season.

Gunnar Henderson - Getting a day off Henderson is not in the Orioles' lineup for Monday's game versus the Red Sox, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Impact Henderson has scuffled against both righties and lefties this season, but his struggles versus southpaws has been more pronounced with a .489 OPS. He'll take a seat Monday with the Red Sox throwing left-hander Chris Sale. Ramon Urias will be at third base and Adam Frazier will get a start at second base versus a lefty.

Connor Norby - Impatient at Triple-A Norby is hitting .289 with two home runs and one steal in 18 games with Triple-A Norfolk.

Impact The 22-year-old second baseman's 0.2 BB/K is easily his worst mark since rookie ball in 2021, and his 25.9 percent hard-hit rate is mediocre for a player his age at Triple-A. His swing-decision metrics suggest he is forcing the issue too much, rather than waiting for pitches he can drive. Compared to Triple-A teammates Joey Ortiz (117 wRC+) and Jordan Westburg (114 wRC+), Norby (85 wRC+) is probably the least likely of Baltimore's high-profile infield prospects to get an emergency promotion in the coming weeks.
