Set to begin year on injured list Manager A.J. Hinch said Saturday Hill (hamstring) will begin the regular season on the injured list, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Impact Hill sustained a hamstring injury in Wednesday's spring game that wasn't viewed as a major concern at the time, but the issue will apparently keep him sidelined to begin the regular season. While the injury is still considered mild, the 26-year-old will be unavailable for at least the first 10 days of the 2022 campaign.

Managing hamstring injury Hill left Wednesday's Grapefruit League win over the Phillies in the ninth inning due to a hamstring injury, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Impact Manager A.J. Hinch said Thursday that Hill will be sidelined for a couple days as a precautionary measure after his early exit Wednesday. The 26-year-old has been competing to serve as the Tigers' fourth outfielder this spring, but it's not yet clear whether his injury will affect his availability to begin the regular season.

Battling for fourth outfielder spot Hill is likely vying with Victor Reyes to be the Tigers' fourth outfielder on Opening Day, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Impact Woodbery called it likely the closest battle in camp, so it could come down to the wire. Reyes likely has the edge since he's been a more productive MLB player to this point, but the former first-rounder Hill certainly has some untapped potential. It's also possible that both players make the roster, depending on how things shake out.

Impact Hill is working his way back after undergoing meniscus surgery in his left knee last fall. Hill figures to be no more than a reserve outfielder to begin the season, so his fantasy value is fairly limited at this point.
