Promoted from Triple-A The Athletics selected Cameron's contract from Triple-A Las Vegas on Thursday.

Impact Cameron, 27, has slashed a robust .307/.424/.577 with six home runs and eight stolen bases over 41 contests with Las Vegas this season. Keep in mind, however, that Las Vegas is a favorable hitting environment, and in 73 games at the major-league level, Cameron has slashed a meager .201/.266/.330. He was called up to take the spot on the 26-man active roster that was vacated by Esteury Ruiz (wrist), who was placed on the 10-day injured list. The right-handed-hitting Cameron could settle in as a short-side platoon option in the outfield.

Impact Cameron signed a minor-league contract with the Athletics in November. In 110 games at Triple-A last season, he slashed .268/.346/.452 with 16 home runs and 23 steals. In spring training this year, the 27-year-old has slashed .200/.310/.200 across 29 plate appearances in 14 games.

Impact The 25-year-old Cameron, who was drafted by the Astros in 2015 and then traded to the Tigers in 2017 as part of the deal that sent Justin Verlander to Houston, will be moving on to his third organization. Since reaching the big leagues for the first time in 2020, Cameron has struggled to stick at baseball's top level, slashing .223/.288/.364 with a 31.6 percent strikeout rate across 244 plate appearances with Detroit over the past three seasons. The Orioles are expected to give Cameron a look in spring training and give him the chance to compete for a reserve role in the outfield, but because he has no minor-league options remaining, he would have to be traded or exposed to waivers if he's not included on the Opening Day roster.
