Entering rotation Wednesday
The White Sox selected Sandlin's contract from Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.
Impact
Chicago placed Noah Schultz (knee) on the 15-day injured list in the corresponding move, and the White Sox intend to have Sandlin replace him in the rotation beginning with Wednesday's game against the Twins at Rate Field, per James Fegan of SoxMachine.com. Acquired from the Red Sox during the offseason, Sandlin's organizational debut was delayed until late April while he recovered from a sore elbow, but he was highly productive over a four-start stretch at Charlotte (0.75 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 17:6 K:BB in 12 innings). Sandlin didn't cover more than four innings in any of those starts, however, so he'll likely be limited from a workload standpoint Wednesday in his MLB debut.

Ready for big leagues
Sandlin will be recalled from Triple-A Charlotte ahead of Tuesday's game against the Twins, Elijah Evans of JustBaseball.com reports.
Impact
Sandlin's 2026 campaign got off to a slow start due to elbow soreness, but he's been dominant at Triple-A since returning from the injury, posting a 0.75 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with a 17:6 K:BB across 12 innings (four starts). The White Sox have deemed that he's ready to show what he can do at the next level, though it's not yet clear if he'll join the rotation or be deployed as a reliever at this juncture.

Overcomes elbow injury
Sandlin (elbow) struck out four while yielding two hits and no walks over four scoreless innings Saturday in his debut for Triple-A Charlotte after being reinstated from the 7-day...
Impact
Acquired from the Red Sox in February, Sandlin's organizational debut was delayed until late April after his throwing progression was slowed down during spring training due to a bout with right elbow soreness. After making a pair of rehab starts at High-A Winston-Salem, Sandlin was cleared to join Charlotte and turned in a gem Sunday, recording his 12 outs on an efficient 48 pitches. Sandlin turned 25 in February and likely won't require much more development time in the minors, so he'll stand a good chance at getting a look in the White Sox rotation at some point later this season.

Slowed by elbow soreness
White Sox manager Will Venable said Monday that Sandlin has contended with elbow soreness recently but is slated to resume throwing Tuesday, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Venable noted that Sandlin dealt with a back issue earlier in spring training prior to experiencing elbow soreness. The two injuries help explain why Sandlin never made an appearance in the Cactus League before the White Sox optioned him to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday. Sandlin is set to get back on a throwing program this week, but it's unclear if he'll have enough time to get fully built up before Charlotte begins its season in late March.

Dispatched to minors
The White Sox optioned Sandlin to Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.
Impact
Acquired from the Red Sox back in February, Sandlin will return to the Triple-A level to begin the upcoming season after struggling in his first taste of the International League in 2025. After dominating early on last season as a starter at Double-A Portland, Sandlin mustered a 7.61 ERA, 2.07 WHIP and 21:13 K:BB in 23.2 innings upon being promoted to Triple-A Worcester. He served primarily as a reliever during his time with Worcester but should be ticketed for the Charlotte rotation.

Traded to White Sox
The White Sox acquired Sandlin and Jordan Hicks from the Red Sox on Sunday in exchange for Gage Ziehl and a player-to-be-named, James Fegan of SoxMachine.com reports.
Impact
Sandlin was added to Boston's 40-man roster in November in order to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft, and he'll now make his way to Chicago. The right-hander had a 3.61 ERA across 82.1 innings at the Double-A level last season but struggled to a 7.61 ERA upon being promoted to Triple-A. Sandlin is likely to return to the Triple-A level to begin 2026 but will be in big-league camp with the White Sox.
