Becomes free agent
The A's declined to tender MacKinnon a contract for 2023.
Impact
Oakland claimed MacKinnon off waivers from the Angels in August and gave him a brief look. He went hitless in 14 plate appearances with a couple runs scored. MacKinnon put up big numbers with Triple-A Salt Lake last season (.324/.429/.631), but those numbers carry little weight given his age (27) and the hitter-friendly conditions of the Pacific Coast League.

Gets call to Oakland
The Athletics recalled MacKinnon from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday.
Impact
He'll be joining the big club for the first time since the Athletics claimed him off waivers from the Angels on Aug. 5. While he's up in the majors, the righty-hitting MacKinnon is likely to serve as a short-side platoon option at either first base or designated hitter. Oakland cleared a spot on the active roster for MacKinnon by placing outfielder Ramon Laureano (oblique) on the 10-day injured list.

Claimed by Oakland
MacKinnon was claimed off waivers by the A's on Friday.
Impact
The 27-year-old was designated for assignment by the Angels earlier this week and will now join a new organization. MacKinnon was at the Triple-A level before losing his spot on the 40-man roster, so he'll likely report to Triple-A Las Vegas for the A's.

DFA'd by Halos
MacKinnon was designated for assignment by the Angels on Tuesday.
Impact
MacKinnon was optioned to the minors just after the All-Star break and has now lost his spot on the Angels' 40-man roster. The 27-year-old posted a .468 OPS in his first 16 big-league games and could remain at Triple-A Salt Lake should he pass through waivers unclaimed.

Optioned to Triple-A
MacKinnon was optioned to Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.
Impact
MacKinnon was sent back to Triple-A after he spent just over a month in the big leagues, producing a .189 average with six RBI over 37 at-bats in 16 games since his call up June 18. Dillon Thomas was called up from Salt Lake on Friday to replace him on the active roster.

Set for big-league debut
MacKinnon was activated from the taxi squad and will start at first base in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Mariners, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register repo...
Impact
He hit .327/.423/.633 with 13 home runs, an 18.8 K% and a 14.2 BB% in 56 games at Triple-A. MacKinnon was a 32nd round pick in 2017 by the Angels and is 27 years old at the time of his big-league debut. As a right-handed first baseman, he could get some short-side platoon work whenever Jared Walsh sits against a lefty.
