Impact After not making the Rays in spring training, Hess posted a 2.81 ERA and a 37:5 K:BB in 32 innings with Triple-A Durham. Two of his 13 appearances were starts, so while the righty will likely join Miami's bullpen, he could serve as a potential spot starter at some point. Jordan Holloway was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville in a corresponding move.

Clears waivers Hess cleared waivers and became a free agent Thursday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Impact Hess spent limited time in the majors in 2020, making three relief appearances in which he allowed five runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out one over seven innings. He's worked as both a starter and a reliever at the major-league level with Baltimore, but he'll now search for a new organization during the offseason.
