Dealing with shoulder soreness Bote exited Thursday's game against the Reds due to left shoulder soreness, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Impact Bote collided with teammate Nico Hoerner attempting to field a groundball in the fourth inning. The injury is particularly concerning because Bote separated his left shoulder on two occasions during the 2021 season and underwent surgery to repair the damage in the offseason. Bote is day-to-day for now, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him out of the lineup for at least a few days.

Impact Bote collided with teammate Nico Hoerner attempting to field a groundball and appeared to take a heavy impact to his chest/shoulder area. Bote initially remained in the game but was lifted an inning later. Andrelton Simmons took over at second base in Bote's place.

The 29-year-old infielder hit an uninspiring .199/.276/.330 across 97 contests for the Cubs last season, but he'll have a chance to carve out playing time on a rebuilding team this year. He's most likely to challenge for playing time at second base initially, and there should be at least a part-time role available to him against all pitchers as the Cubs' infield remains heavy on right-handed hitters.

Impact Bote missed the start of the year since he underwent offseason shoulder surgery, and he hit a snag in his rehab process earlier in June when he experienced bouts of dizziness. However, he appeared in 18 games during a rehab assignment at Triple-A Iowa, and he slashed .284/.351/.403 with a triple, six doubles, 12 RBI, seven runs and three stolen bases. He should have a chance to carve out playing time in the infield after Jonathan Villar was designated for assignment by the Cubs on Friday.

Impact Bote has been on the shelf all season while recovering from the left shoulder surgery he underwent last November, but it was bouts of dizziness that resulted in him being pulled off his rehab assignment earlier this month. After a two-week respite, Bote's dizzy spells have apparently subsided, so he should soon rejoin the Iowa lineup. The Cubs may want to see Bote experience some more success at Triple-A before activating him; through his first 12 games on assignment, Bote produced a mediocre .497 OPS.
