Back from injured list Santana (groin) was activated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.

Impact Santana has been sidelined by the groin injury since just after the All-Star break, and he'll rejoin the major-league roster Wednesday with the team in the midst of a COVID-19 outbreak. The 30-year-old won't immediately join the lineup, but there should be plenty of opportunities up for grabs in the immediate future with four position players currently on the COVID IL.

Impact The Red Sox were hopeful that Santana would be back with the team as early as Monday, but he'll require at least one more rehab game before returning to the majors. The team would have some more flexibility if he's activated Wednesday since the team's active roster will expand to 28 players Sept. 1. The 30-year-old has gone 7-for-14 with two home runs, a double, five runs, four RBI and three stolen bases across his five rehab appearances.
