Outrighted to Triple-A Ray was outrighted to Triple-A Nashville on Friday.

Impact Ray began the 2022 season in Nashville and slashed .146/.172/.271 with two homers, 15 RBI, eight runs and seven stolen bases over 27 minor-league games to begin the year. He'll remain with the Triple-A club after losing his spot on the 40-man roster.

Sent to minor-league camp Ray was optioned to Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday.

Impact Ray opened spring training with the big-league club, but his early demotion to the minor-league side indicates he wasn't all that close to making the Opening Day roster. The 27-year-old was formerly one of Milwaukee's top prospects and made his MLB debut with a one-game appearance last season. Ray hit .274/.325/.500 in 39 games at Triple-A in 2021, and he has a tough path to the majors given the Brewers' outfield depth.

Returns from injury Ray (quadriceps) has gone 4-for-12 with three doubles and four RBI in three games since Triple-A Nashville reinstated him from the 7-day injured list June 25.

Impact Ray was sidelined for about three and a half weeks with the quad injury. The No. 5 overall pick in the 2016 first-year player draft is slashing .263/.300/.474 with three home runs and two stolen bases across 100 plate appearances for Nashville this season.

Placed on 7-day injured list Ray was placed on the 7-day minor-league injured list with a quadriceps injury Friday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Impact Ray had recorded hits in each of his last five games with Triple-A Nashville, but he'll now be sidelined due to his quad issue. It's not yet clear when the 26-year-old will be able to return to action.

Impact Ray has been shuffled between the major-league roster and the alternate training site several times in the last few days, and he'll return to alternate camp as part of a transaction in which right-hander Zack Godley's contract was selected by Milwaukee. Ray has appeared in just one game during his time in the majors and went 0-for-2 with a walk, one run and a strikeout.

Impact The Brewers liked Ray enough to select him fifth overall in the 2016 draft, but he hasn't had the smoothest journey through the minors. He flashed potential with 27 homers and 37 steals at the Double-A level back in 2018 but hit just .239 that season. In 53 games at the Triple-A level the next year, he hit a miserable .188/.261/.329 while striking out 38.7 percent of the time. The poor hit tool holds back what might otherwise be an exciting profile here, but Ray could earn opportunities despite his imperfections with Christian Yelich (back) and Lorenzo Cain (quadriceps) both on the injured list and Avisail Garcia day-to-day with a back issue.
