Falls short in roster bid The Cubs reassigned Martin to minor-league camp Sunday.

Impact Martin made 17 appearances in the big leagues with Baltimore in 2025, but he lost his spot on the 40-man roster in September and then signed a minor-league deal with the Cubs over the winter. The veteran righty was unable to secure a spot in the Cubs' Opening Day bullpen and is expected to begin the season at Triple-A Iowa.

Goes to Cubs on MiLB deal The Cubs signed Martin to a minor-league contract Monday that includes an invitation to spring training, Lance Brozdowski of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Impact Martin made 17 appearances out of the Orioles' bullpen this past season, finishing with a 6.00 ERA but a more promising 23:9 K:BB over 18 innings. The 30-year-old has been a full-time reliever each of the last two seasons after missing the 2023 campaign following lat surgery. Martin will try to win a spot in the Cubs' bullpen but is likely ticketed for Triple-A Iowa to kick off the 2026 season.

Impact Martin was the sixth Orioles reliever to pitch in the contest, but an RBI groundout by Samuel Basallo in the top of the 11th frame opened up a save chance for the 29-year-old pitcher. Baltimore's closing job appears to be wide open without Felix Bautista (shoulder), who's out for the season. The 29-year-old right-hander was once a promising prospect in the Houston system, but injuries have turned him into something of a journeyman.
