Colt Keith - Page 10 - MLB News, Rumors, & Updates

Stays hot in rout Keith went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a walk in Monday's 13-1 victory over the White Sox.

Impact Keith extended his hitting streak to nine games, and he also has at least one knock in 13 of his last 15 outings. Since May 14, the infielder is hitting .304 (17-for-56) with five RBI, seven doubles and nine runs scored. Although the lefty-hitting Keith doesn't have a clear pathway to a role in the field while Spencer Torkelson and Gleyber Torres are healthy, he should still see plenty of action as the designated hitter versus right-handed pitching.

Since May 14, the infielder is hitting .304 (17-for-56) with five RBI, seven doubles and nine runs scored. The lefty-hitting Keith has been getting most of his starts at designated hitter lately, but he has already played enough second base to qualify there in 2026 and could also add first base eligibility. He should continue to hit in the middle of the Tigers lineup against righties.

Sitting Sunday, may lose out on starts Keith is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Guardians.

Impact Though his absence from the lineup against a lefty starter (Logan Allen) doesn't come as much of a surprise, the left-handed-hitting Keith could be at risk of moving into more of a part-time role against right-handed pitching now that Detroit is beginning to reclaim some health. Matt Vierling returned from the injured list earlier this weekend to make his season debut, and Parker Meadows (arm) and Wenceel Perez (back) are both in the midst of rehab assignments and could be activated from the IL at some point next week.

Impact Keith has a .545 OPS through 81 plate appearances this season and finds himself on the bench Sunday for the fourth time in Detroit's past five contests, with three of those games coming against right-handed pitchers. The 23-year-old was expected to operate as the Tigers' primary first baseman this year, but Gleyber Torres' early oblique injury led to more action at second base, and the strong play of Spencer Torkelson and Zach McKinstry has resulted in a reduced role for Keith since Torres' return.
