Throws off mound Sulser (lat) threw 10 pitches off a mound recently, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Impact Sulser resumed playing catch in late June and took another step in his recovery process by throwing off a mound. Although he had a limited pitch count and didn't throw at full strength, he'll presumably work on building back up in the near future. The right-hander has been on the injured list for a month, so it seems likely that he'll require a rehab assignment prior to rejoining the Marlins.

Impact Sulser landed on the 15-day injured list with a right lat strain June 15 and has been cleared to resume a throwing program just over a week later. It's not yet clear when the right-hander will be able to return to game action, but a better idea of his timetable should come into focus once he resumes mound work.

Impact In a corresponding move, the Marlins called up Daniel Castano from Triple-A Jacksonville in advance of his scheduled start in Wednesday's series finale in Philadelphia. Sulser, who has two saves to his name this season, had settled into more of a setup role in June with Tanner Scott notching each of Miami's last four saves. Scott should gain further job security with Sulser out of commission for the time being.
