Impact Reed had been sidelined due to left thumb weakness, but he's been throwing at the team's alternate training site. Reed was targeting a return early next week, but he'll be able to return to the major-league club a few days earlier than expected. Right-hander Trevor Richards was optioned to Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move.
