INJURIES

Set for live batting practice Bolton (back) will throw a live batting practice session Tuesday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Bolton landed on the 15-day injured list last week with mid-back inflammation. He is eligible for activation April 28 and has a good chance to be back by that date, given that he's already been cleared to face hitters.

Yordan Alvarez goes deep and Spencer Arrighetti fans 10, lifting the Astros past the Rockies 3-1

Yordan Alvarez hit his seventh home run of the season and Spencer Arrighetti struck out 10 in six strong innings to lead the Houston Astros to a 3-1 win over the Colorado Rockies

Placed on IL with back injury The Astros placed Bolton on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with mid-back inflammation, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.
Impact Bolton had to be lifted from a start Sunday against the Mariners with a back issue that had lingered since his previous outing. It doesn't seem to be a long-term issue, but it's yet another blow to the depth of the Astros' rotation.

Astros lose another starter, Cody Bolton leaves Sunday's 6-1 loss to the Mariners with back injury

Houston Astros starter Cody Bolton left a 6-1 loss to the Seattle Mariners in the second inning because of mid-back tightness

Set for additional imaging Bolton (back) will undergo additional imaging in the near future, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact Bolton was forced to exit his outing Sunday against Seattle in the second inning with mid-back tightness, which is now understood to be related to his previous back issue from earlier in the week. The 27-year-old explained following the team's 6-1 loss to Seattle that the tightness occurred in the same area that he took a line drive off his back Monday in Colorado. Bolton attempted to pitch through it in an effort to give Houston some much-needed length on the mound Sunday, but the Astros now appear to be dealing with yet another injury to their pitching staff.

Leaves early with back tightness Bolton left Sunday's contest against the Mariners in bottom of the second inning with back tightness, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact Bolton was far from sharp to open Sunday's matchup, hitting a batter while walking another and giving up a single and run in the bottom of the first. He then walked all three batters he faced in the second frame before being removed with back discomfort. The right-hander worked his way back from having been hit in his back by a line drive in the first inning of his previous start Monday versus the Rockies, and it's unclear if Sunday's issue is connected to that. More information on his status will likely be provided following the conclusion of the team's series finale with Seattle.

Cleared to start Sunday Bolton (back) is slated to start Sunday's game against the Mariners in Seattle, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact Bolton will be making a second straight turn through the Houston rotation after he made his first MLB start Monday in Colorado. The right-hander acquitted himself well at Coors Field, striking out five over 4.1 innings while limiting the Rockies to two earned runs on three hits and two walks. The Astros sent Bolton in for a precautionary MRI after he was struck in the back by a line drive in the first inning of Monday's start, but the tests evidently turned up nothing too concerning. Bolton tossed 63 pitches in his previous start and will likely increase his workload Sunday as he gets fully stretched out for what could be a longer-term appointment in the rotation with Hunter Brown and Cristian Javier both recently landing on the injured list with Grade 2 shoulder strains.

Impact Bolton was able to remain in the game after being hit in the back with a line drive that registered at 102 mph off the bat during the first inning, but the club will take a closer look to ensure he avoided injury. The right-hander can be considered day-to-day until Houston has another update to share.

Set for start Monday Bolton will draw the start on the mound Monday against the Rockies, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Impact Bolton will be tasked with making a spot start Monday after Hunter Brown (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list Sunday, leaving a void on the mound for the team's series opener versus Colorado. The start will be the first of Bolton's major-league career, and it'll be his first appearance since tossing three innings while allowing one run on three hits and a walk while striking out five in his season debut March 31 against Boston. The three innings marked the longest outing of his major-league career, so he likely won't pitch deep into the game against the Rockies.

Logs three-inning save Bolton earned the save in Tuesday's 9-2 win over the Red Sox, allowing a run on three hits and a walk. He struck out five.
Impact Making his first appearance with the Astros, Bolton earned his first career save, pitching the final three innings in Tuesday's decisive victory. The 27-year-old right-hander made Houston's Opening Day bullpen with numerous pitchers starting the year on the injured list. Bolton has a career ERA of 5.60 with a 1.78 WHIP over 45 innings across four seasons.

Headed to majors The Astros selected Bolton's contract from Triple-A Sugar Land on Monday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.
Impact To make room on the 40-man roster for Bolton, the Astros shifted Hayden Wesneski (elbow) to the 60-day injured list. Bolton has 34 games of major-league experience, all out of the bullpen, and has a career 5.79 ERA, 1.81 WHIP and 40:24 K:BB across 42 innings.
