Escapes with fifth save Beeter earned the save in Saturday's 4-3 win over the Rays, allowing one run on one hit and two walks with two strikeouts in the ninth inning.
Impact Beeter was summoned to protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning and allowed a run with no outs before bearing down to slam the door. It marked the 27-year-old's first save since May 31, and with Gus Varland having last appeared June 16, it appears the Nationals are still taking a committee approach to the closer role. On the year, Beeter owns a 3.63 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 25:16 K:BB across 22.1 innings while collecting five saves and three holds.

Grabs fourth save Beeter picked up the save in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Padres, working around a hit while striking out one in the ninth inning.
Impact After throwing 22 pitches to earn the save Saturday, Beeter got the call again in the ninth inning a day later, where he'd get the job done to earn his fourth save this season. Beeter's been sharp of late, turning in six straight scoreless appearances, allowing just three hits in that span (6.1 innings) as he looks to have solidified his standing as Washington's primary closer. His ERA is down to 2.30 through 15.2 innings this season with a 1.21 WHIP and 15:12 K:BB.

Earns third save Beeter earned the save in Saturday's 9-4 win over the Padres, allowing no hits and two walks with one strikeout over 1.1 scoreless innings.
Impact Beeter relieved Gus Varland with the bases loaded and a three-run lead in the eighth inning and was able to record the final out before tossing a scoreless ninth to nail down his third save. In four appearances since returning from the injured list May 21, the 27-year-old has fired 4.1 scoreless frames with a 5:4 K:BB. He owns a 2.45 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 14:12 K:BB across 14.2 innings this season and should have a good chance to reclaim the primary closer's role given the lack of success his teammates had in his absence.

Nationals right-hander Jake Irvin on 15-day injured list with 'best news' of shoulder strain

Scoreless outing in return Beeter walked one and struck out two in a scoreless eighth inning Thursday during a 2-1 loss to the Mets.
Impact The right-hander was activated off the IL earlier in the day and was immediately thrust into a high-leverage spot, taking over from Cade Cavalli in a one-run game. Beeter has been sidelined since April 21 due to forearm soreness, but in his absence no one staked a strong claim to the Nationals' closer job -- Gus Varland leads the team with four saves to Beeter's two. Control remains the biggest obstacle between Beeter and the gig, and through 11.1 innings this season he has a 3.18 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 11:9 K:BB.

Reinstated from injured list The Nationals activated Beeter (forearm) from the 15-day injured list Thursday.
Impact Beeter has been shelved since late April with right forearm discomfort, but he's been cleared to return to action after making three rehab appearances. It's possible the Nationals will ease Beeter back into high-leverage outings, but he should be back in the closer mix sooner rather than later.

Expected to be activated Thursday Beeter (forearm) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list prior to Thursday's game against the Mets, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
Impact Out since late April with right forearm soreness, Beeter made three rehab appearances, yielding one run with a 4:0 K:BB in three innings. Beeter notched two saves for the Nationals before getting hurt and will be thrown back into the late innings as part of a mix-and-match bullpen for manager Blake Butera.
MAY 21 • ROTOWIRE
Could return later this week Beeter (forearm) threw a scoreless inning for Triple-A Rochester on Saturday, allowing one hit and striking out one.
Impact Per Spencer Nusbaum of The Athletic, Beeter will make one more rehab appearance Tuesday before potentially being activated from the IL. The right-hander should slot right back into the Nationals' unsettled high-leverage mix once he returns after posting a 3.48 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 9:8 K:BB over 10.1 innings to begin the season with one win, two holds and two saves in 10 appearances. Beeter's been sidelined since April 21 due to forearm soreness.
MAY 18 • ROTOWIRE
Ready for rehab assignment Beeter (forearm) is ready to begin a rehab assignment, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
Impact Beeter is at the Nationals' spring training complex in Florida, so it sounds like his first rehab appearance will be for the team's Florida Complex League affiliate. The reliever has been sidelined since late April with right forearm soreness, so he shouldn't require too many rehab outings before being activated. Beeter has collected two saves this season as part of closer-by-committee, and he should be thrown back into leverage situations upon activation.
MAY 12 • ROTOWIRE
Resumes mound work Beeter (forearm) has been cleared to resume throwing off the mound, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
Impact Beeter was placed on the 15-day injured list a little over a week ago because of right forearm soreness. An MRI came back negative, and Beeter has taken a big step forward with his rehab with the resumption of mound work. It's unlikely he will be ready to return when eligible May 8, but it shouldn't be long after that. Beeter has essentially been co-closer with Gus Varland this season and should return to that role once he's deemed physically ready.
MAY 5 • ROTOWIRE
MRI comes back clean Beeter (forearm) had an MRI come back clean and was cleared to resume throwing Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of NatsJournal.com reports.
Impact The right-hander landed on the injured list Sunday due to right forearm soreness, and the quick return to throwing should allow him to avoid a lengthy stay on the injured list. Beeter will be eligible to be reinstated May 8 in Miami, and it's possible he'll be able to return on or shortly after that date.

Nationals place pitcher Clayton Beeter on the 15-day injured list with right forearm soreness

The Washington Nationals have placed right-handed reliever Clayton Beeter on the 15-day injured list with right forearm soreness
APRIL 26 • Associated Press
Lands on injured list The Nationals placed Beeter on the 15-day injured list Sunday, retroactive to April 23, due to right forearm soreness.
Impact It's unclear when exactly the right-hander suffered the injury, but he hasn't seen the field since firing a scoreless frame against Atlanta last Tuesday. Beeter and Gus Varland lead the Nationals with two saves each, so Varland is likely to be the primary option at closer while Beeter is sidelined.

Blows save but earns win Beeter (1-0) earned the win but blew the save Thursday against the Pirates, allowing one run on one hit and two walks while striking out one in the ninth inning.
Impact Given a 7-6 lead in the ninth inning, Beeter struggled with control Thursday, walking two batters and allowing the game-tying run on a bases-loaded, infield single by Brandon Lowe. It was the second blown save of the season for the right-hander. The damage done, the 27-year-old was able to wiggle out of the jam to bring the game to extra innings, and the Nationals rewarded him by scoring in the top of the 10th inning to give him a win. Regardless, the control issues must be cleaned up by Beeter if he's going to continue to be the trusted ninth-inning option for the Nationals as he has more walks (8) than strikeouts (7) in 9.1 innings pitched so far on the season.
APRIL 17 • ROTOWIRE
Survives for second save Beeter picked up the save Saturday against the Brewers, allowing one home run and two walks in the ninth inning. He struck out two.
Impact The Brewers were scuffling throughout the evening, as they were held to one hit through eight frames, but Beeter gave them plenty of life in the ninth inning. William Contreras took him deep for a leadoff solo shot before Brandon Lockridge drew a walk, but Beeter was able to get Joey Ortiz to ground out to end the game. The right-hander seems to have a tenuous grip on Washington's closer job, logging a 3.52 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 6:6 K:BB over 7.2 innings while converting two of his three save opportunities.
