Scott did get tagged for six runs in 3.1 innings in his season debut after sitting out all of 2025 while recovering from elbow surgery, but his quick turnaround coincides with the struggles of David Peterson and Kodai Senga in the Mets' big-league rotation. If New York elects to shake things up after a 7-13 start to the campaign, Scott is a likely candidate to get a promotion.

Impact Scott stretched out to 56 pitches over three-plus innings Monday, allowing three runs and striking out four Nationals batters. It's no surprise to see him ticketed for Triple-A to start his first full season back from Tommy John surgery, but he could be the first name called when the big-league rotation needs reinforcements. "This is a guy that's not afraid," said manager Carlos Mendoza. "He attacks and stays on the attack. I think it's just keeping him healthy, because he's going to be a big part of this team moving forward." He generated seven whiffs on his splitter and four more on his fastball in Monday's outing. All told, Scott logged a 4.50 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB in six innings during Grapefruit League play. He threw 89.2 innings in 2024 and missed all of 2025 recovering from surgery.

Fans five in first spring action Scott allowed two hits over 2.2 scoreless innings in Wednesday's exhibition game against Team Israel. He struck out five without walking a batter.

Impact It was the first game action since July 2024 for the right-hander as he enters the final stages of his recovery from Tommy John surgery. Scott fired an impressive 40 of his 50 pitches for strikes after taking over from David Peterson to begin the fourth inning, and his fastball topped out at 96.8 mph. Scott will begin the season at Triple-A Syracuse barring a rash of injuries to the Mets' rotation, but he figures to be a factor for the big club some time this summer.

Impact Back to full health after missing the entire 2025 season while recovering from a September 2024 Tommy John surgery with an internal brace, Scott is getting the chance this spring to compete for a back-end spot in the Mets' Opening Day rotation. Given the Mets' ample starting depth along with the fact that he's coming off a major injury and has minor-league options remaining, Scott is probably on the outside looking in for a rotation spot. Before requiring the elbow procedure, Scott performed adequately over his nine starts with the Mets in 2024, logging a 4.56 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 39:12 K:BB in 47.1 innings.

Impact Recovering from a hybrid Tommy John and internal brace procedure on his right elbow, Scott was scheduled to throw a live bullpen session Tuesday. It was the fourth time he's faced hitters since September 2024 surgery and the second time he's done so on a five-day schedule. The righty said he's been sitting 94 mph and touching 96 mph during his bullpen sessions. Scott will now go through a de-loading period before ramping his throwing back up in January. While Scott could be slow-played at the start of spring training following a long layoff, he should be ready to go for the start of the regular season. A spot in the Opening Day rotation is unlikely, but the 26-year-old could be part of the Mets' rotation at some point in 2026.
