Placed on injured list The Rangers placed Martin on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a bicep injury, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Impact Martin was pulled from his appearance Tuesday after throwing just five pitches in one-third of an inning, and he'll now be held out of action for the rest of the month after suffering a biceps injury. He'll be joined on the injured list by Luis Curvelo (shoulder), and the Rangers will bring up Gavin Collyer and Cal Quantrill from Triple-A Round Rock to round out the active roster.

Allows ninth-inning runs Martin (1-1) picked up the loss Friday, when he allowed two runs on two hits over one inning in a 5-3 loss to the Reds.
Impact Martin entered a 3-3 game in the top of the ninth inning and left with Texas trailing. He gave up a leadoff double to Spencer Steer followed by Tyler Stephenson's two-run home run. Martin, who entered the season as part of a committee of closers, has allowed five runs (four earned) over 2.2 innings. All five runs crossed the plate in the ninth inning of games.

Blows first save opportunity Martin (1-0) blew the save but came away with the win in Saturday's 5-4 victory over the Phillies. He allowed one unearned run on two hits and struck out one while recording one ou...
Impact With the Rangers up 3-0, manager Skip Schumaker actually called on Robert Garcia to open the ninth inning. However, Garcia recorded just two outs while allowing two unearned runs on one hit and one walk with one strikeout before giving way to Chris Martin to protect the 3-2 lead. Martin surrendered two hits and a run to send the game to extra innings. With neither pitcher faring well in their first outing of the season, Garcia would seem to continue to hold the slight edge for save opportunities for Texas.

Rangers blow 3-run lead in 9th inning but recover to top Phillies 5-4 in the 10th

Jake Burger and Corey Seager each homered and the Texas Rangers recovered from blowing a three-run lead in the ninth inning to beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-4 in 10 innings

In mix to close with Garcia Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said Monday that he's comfortable with Martin and Robert Garcia in the closer role, and who he uses in the ninth inning will "depend on the situation...
Impact Schumaker at the start of Rangers camp named Garcia and Martin as the favorites to garner save chances, and he still sees the situation the same way on the precipice of Opening Day. The 39-year-old Martin has never had more than four saves in a single season in his career, but he's been one of the most reliable relievers in baseball over the last four years with a 2.60 ERA, 27.4 percent strikeout rate and 3.1 percent walk rate.

Records scoreless inning Martin walked one over a scoreless inning in Friday's spring game against the Rockies.
Impact Martin pitched a scoreless sixth inning in his third Cactus League appearance. He remains in the mix to close games for the Rangers, and one obstacle was cleared Friday when the Rangers designated Alexis Diaz for assignment. That leaves Martin and Robert Garcia as the primary candidates to close games for Texas. Garcia just returned to camp after Team Mexico was ousted from the World Baseball Classic, and the competition between the two will play out over the final two weeks of the Cactus League.

Could see save opportunities Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said Wednesday that Robert Garcia and Martin are the favorites to see save chances for the team this season, Jeff Wilson of AllDLLS.com reports.
Impact After mulling retirement, Martin re-signed with the Rangers in December on a one-year, $4 million contract. He'll turn 40 in June but has remained highly effective, having logged a 2.98 ERA and 43:8 K:BB over 42.1 frames in 2025 while notching two saves. Martin finished last season on the injured list with an undisclosed injury but enters spring training without limitations.

Texas Rangers and reliever Chris Martin finalize $4 million, 1-year contract

Chris Martin and the Texas Rangers completed a $4 million, one-year contract that puts the reliever back in the bullpen with his hometown team
DECEMBER 20, 2025 • Associated Press
Back with Rangers Martin (undisclosed) signed a one-year contract with the Rangers on Tuesday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Impact Martin was a key part of the Rangers' bullpen this past season, as he finished the year with a 2.98 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 42.1 innings while adding two saves and 13 holds. Now committed to another year in Arlington, the 39-year-old righty will likely continue to work in a setup role ahead of closer Robert Garcia.

Placed on IL The Rangers placed Martin (undisclosed) on the 15-day injured list Friday.
Impact It's unclear if Martin's move to the IL is related to the right hand injury he suffered Sept. 14, but the Rangers should provide some clarity in the near future. Either way, he'll remain sidelined for the rest of 2025 and finish the season with a 2.98 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 42.1 innings. With Cole Winn (undisclosed) also moving to the IL, Texas will promote Jose Corniell and Luis Curvelo from Triple-A to fill the open roster spots.
