Gets wrist surgery The Guardians announced that DeLauter underwent surgery Wednesday to address a hamate fracture in his right hand/wrist. The outfielder is expected to be out for 6-to-8 weeks before...

Impact The wrist surgery is yet another setback on the health front for the talented 23-year-old outfielder, who required sports hernia surgery during the spring and previously missed significant time in his first three seasons of professional ball due to injuries to both feet. DeLauter had been productive when available at Triple-A Columbus this season, producing a .278/.383/.476 with five home runs in 149 plate appearances before he sustained the wrist injury shortly before the All-Star break. Given the timeline provided by the Guardians, DeLauter is likely out of the running to make his MLB debut in 2025, and he could be hard pressed to make it back before the Triple-A regular season comes to an end Sept. 21.

Visiting specialist DeLauter (wrist) will visit a hand specialist early this week, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Impact DeLauter is seeking out an assessment for lingering soreness in his right wrist. The 23-year-old prospect had dealt with the soreness for the final few weeks prior to the All-Star break, but he experienced an uptick in symptoms and hasn't played since July 11.

Nursing sore wrist The Guardians announced Sunday that DeLauter has been held out of the Triple-A Columbus lineup since Friday due to a right wrist soreness, Tommy Wild of SI.com reports.

Impact According to Wild, DeLauter had been playing through the sore wrist for the past few weeks, but the injury seemingly hasn't hindered him at the plate, as he's slashing .295/.390/.486 with four home runs and a 17:17 BB:K dating back to the start of June. The Guardians plan to evaluate the 23-year-old outfielder over the All-Star break before a determination is made on his next course of action. Assuming DeLauter can quickly move past the injury and return to the Columbus lineup, he should remain on track to make his big-league debut at some point in the second half of the season.

Increases volume of games DeLauter has built up to playing at least five games per week, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

Impact DeLauter opened the season on the injured list while recovering from core muscle surgery in March. He began playing games for Triple-A Columbus in early May, but the body didn't respond quickly at first, and the organization managed his volume and velocity of games. "I think -- really for the first time -- he's now at a point where he's been able to play and absorb the volume of playing five or so days a week," club president Chris Antonetti said, "and not have it impacted negatively and impact his recovery." This news comes at a time when the Guardians' offense has gone into a slumber -- they are last in MLB this month in runs per game (2.87), average (.208), on-base percentage (.274) and slugging (.329). Antonetti effused that the 2022 first-round pick is an option to consider. DeLauter is currently riding a 26-game on-base streak, during which he's posted a .309/.426/.543 line with 11 extra-base hits, 17 RBI and 21 runs.

Homers in back-to-back games DeLauter went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI for Triple-A Columbus on Thursday.

Impact DeLauter homered for a second consecutive game and is batting .290/.410/.493 with three homers and 11 RBI over 83 plate appearances for the Clippers. His season was delayed by sports hernia surgery, and DeLauter began rehab in the Arizona Complex League in early May before being activated and assigned to Columbus. He's reached base safely in all 19 games in Triple-A while posting a 16.9 walk percentage and 12.0 strikeout rate. DeLauter has played both corner outfield spots for the Clippers in 2025 and could make his MLB debut for the Guardians, whose right fielders rank 29th with a .541 OPS.

Ready for 2025 Triple-A debut Triple-A Columbus reinstated DeLauter (sports hernia) from its 7-day injured list Thursday.

Impact Columbus placed DeLauter on its IL prior to the start of the season after the outfielder required sports hernia surgery in early March. After an extended rest and rehab period, DeLauter was cleared to begin a rehab assignment May 6 in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League, where he slashed .182/.357/.455 with two home runs and one stolen base in eight games. The 23-year-old has a checkered injury history, but he remains one of the Guardians' top upper-level prospects and should have a chance at making his MLB debut later on this season if health prevails.

Headed to Arizona Complex League DeLauter (abdomen) was added to the Guardian's Arizona Complex League roster Monday for a rehab assignment.

Impact DeLauter underwent sports hernia surgery in early March, which carried an 8-to-12 week recovery timeline, and he's now set to get some at-bats in Arizona. The outfielder played in 37 games between Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus in 2024, batting .304 with two home runs, seven RBI and four runs scored over 23 at-bats over six games with the latter. Once healthy, DeLauter could challenge for a major-league roster spot with Cleveland down the road in 2025.

Engaging in baseball activity DeLauter (abodmen) has responded well to rehab and is throwing, hitting and running, MLB.com reports.

Impact DeLauter, the Guardians' first-round draft pick in 2022, could progress to live batting practice this week. The organization anticipates a late-May or early-June return window.

Sent to minor-league camp The Twins reassigned DeLauter (abdomen) to minor-league camp Saturday.

Impact DeLauter is expected to be out for 8-to-12 weeks after undergoing hernia surgery Tuesday. He's logged only 168 plate appearances in the minors during the 2024 regular season (including 27 in Triple-A), but he has a chance at seeing time on the Guardians' 26-man roster during the 2025 campaign once he's fully recovered from the procedure.

Undergoes hernia surgery DeLauter will be sidelined for 8-to-12 weeks after undergoing sports hernia surgery Tuesday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Impact DeLauter has been limited to only 96 minor-league games since being taken in the first round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, mostly due to nagging foot problems. Now, he has an additional injury to deal with that will delay his development further. With health, DeLauter would be a good bet to debut for Cleveland this season, and perhaps sooner rather than later, but now his status for 2025 is cloudy.

Focusing on mobility DeLauter's offseason preparation focused more on mobility than strictly strength, Anthony Castrovince of MLB.com reports.

Impact DeLauter's bat and plate discipline gets a lot of attention, deservedly so, but he's dealt with foot injuries each year since being drafted in the first round of the 2022 draft. That bat does no good on the IL. Hence, the prospect's desire to stay healthy and compete for a potential role on the big-league roster. "As Chase continues to develop, it's about understanding what it takes for that body to be able to play every day," Cleveland manager Stephen Vogt said. "He's around some really good people and really good resources to start to understand what his body is telling him." DeLauter had just 168 plate appearances in 2024, including 27 at Triple-A Columbus, suggesting he's not expected to win a job outright in camp. He can play all three outfield spots and could eventually be the answer in right field, which is one of the position battles going on in spring training.

Receives spring training invite The Guardians have extended DeLauter an invitation to big-league camp during spring training.

Impact DeLauter is one of the most physically gifted outfield prospects in baseball but had a tough time with injuries again in 2024, as he was limited to just 39 games because of foot and hamstring problems. He's hit .317/.387/.517 over 406 plate appearances during his time in the minors and appears close to being big-league ready if he can stay on the field. DeLauter could have an outside shot at an Opening Day roster spot if he has a big spring.

Set to play in Fall League The Guardians list DeLauter (hamstring) as one the organization's eight prospects on the Surprise Saguaros' Arizona Fall League roster.

Impact DeLauter finished the 2024 season on Triple-A Columbus' 7-day injured list with a right hamstring strain, but the expectation is that he'll be ready to play when Fall League play opens Oct. 7. In addition to the hamstring strain, injuries to both of DeLauter's feet limited him to just 159 plate appearances between Columbus and Double-A Akron in 2024. The assignment to the Fall League will afford DeLauter the opportunity to get some more competitive at-bats in before spring training.

Goes on Triple-A IL DeLauter was placed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Columbus on Friday with a right hamstring strain.

Impact The 22-year-old had posted an 1.147 OPS in six games after being promoted to Columbus, putting himself on the radar for a potential September call-up. While the severity of the strain is unclear, DeLauter would appear to now be a long shot to get a late-season look in the majors. He has loads of talent but just can't stay on the field, having missed ample time the last two seasons with foot problems and now being shelved by a hamstring injury.

AUGUST 30, 2024 • ROTOWIRE

Moving up to Triple-A DeLauter will be promoted from Double-A Akron to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.

Impact DeLauter returned to action for Akron in late July after missing nearly two months of action with a foot injury. He had homered in each of his last three games and in four of his past seven contests with Akron. DeLauter has slashed .318/.385/.502 in two minor-league seasons but has been plagued by nagging foot problems.

Activated from IL DeLauter (toe) was activated from Double-A Akron's 7-day injured list Saturday.

Impact The top prospect went 2-for-8 with a home run, a walk and three runs scored over three rehab games with the Guardians' Arizona Complex League affiliate. DeLauter did not play on consecutive days during his rehab assignment, so it's likely he'll be eased back in at Akron, potentially serving occasionally as the designated hitter.

Impact The top prospect went 2-for-8 with a home run, a walk and three runs scored over three rehab games with the Guardians' Arizona Complex League affiliate. DeLauter did not play consecutive days during his rehab assignment, so it's likely he'll be eased back in at Akron, potentially also serving regularly as a designated hitter.

Rehabbing in Arizona DeLauter began a rehab assignment with the Guardians' Arizona Complex League affiliate on Saturday.

Impact DeLauter has played just one game since April due to a broken left foot and then a sprained toe on his right foot. He's dealt with multiple foot injuries, primarily the left one, during his minor-league career. Given his lengthy absence, he'll likely need a handful of rehab games before he can return to Double-A Akron's lineup.

JULY 21, 2024 • ROTOWIRE

Done playing in big-league ST games DeLauter will not play in anymore big-league spring training games this season, manager Stephen Vogt told Christopher Dellacese of 19 News.

Impact DeLauter was in minor-league camp but was able to make 30 plate appearances with the big club this spring, slashing .520/.600/1.040 with four home runs and more walks (five) than strikeouts (four). He will likely head to Double-A or Triple-A as a 22-year-old and could be up playing everyday for the big club sometime in the first half.
