Starting Tuesday
Barnes will be recalled from Triple-A St. Paul to start Tuesday's game against the Tigers, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact
Barnes was sent to St. Paul in mid-September, and he allowed one run on six hits and no walks while striking out four in four innings during a minor-league appearance Friday. He has a 6.61 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 31.1 innings across seven appearances (six starts) with the Twins this year and hasn't lasted longer than five innings in any of his big-league outings.

Heads back to St. Paul
The Twins optioned Barnes to Triple-A St. Paul on Wednesday.
Impact
As expected, Barnes will head back to the minors one day after he served as the Twins' 29th man for the team's doubleheader with Cleveland. He started the second game of the twin bill, taking a no-decision while giving up three earned runs on four hits and a walk over four innings.

No-decision in nightcap

Impact
The southpaw wasn't exactly sharp in throwing 45 of 71 pitches for strikes, but he left the game with the Twins ahead 4-3. This was originally expected to be a spot start for the 25-year-old, but with Joe Ryan having left the first game after being struck on the wrist by a comebacker, Barnes could be needed in the rotation beyond Tuesday. His 6.61 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 15:12 K:BB through 31.1 big-league innings this year offer no fantasy upside if he does stick around, however.

Called up ahead of start
Barnes was recalled by the Twins ahead of his scheduled start in the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader against Cleveland, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
Impact
Barnes will merely be the extra man for the doubleheader, so he'll likely return to the minors following his start. He hasn't been good in his first taste of big-league action this season, struggling to a 6.59 ERA in five starts and one relief appearance while striking out just 10.5 percent of opposing batters.

In line for doubleheader start
The Twins will call up Barnes from Triple-A St. Paul to start the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader with Cleveland, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Minnesota is expected to designate Barnes as its 29th man for the twin bill, so he'll more than likely be headed back to Triple-A after he completes his start Tuesday. Over his prior six outings (five starts) with Minnesota spanning 27.1 innings, Barnes compiled a 6.59 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 13:11 K:BB.

Retreats to minors
The Twins optioned Barnes to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
Impact
Since moving into the Minnesota rotation Aug. 4, Barnes had stumbled to the tune of a 7.54 ERA, 1.68 WHIP and 4.8 K/9 in five outings. With Randy Dobnak (finger) potentially on track to return from the 60-day injured list this week and with prospect Joe Ryan making a compelling case for a promotion to the big leagues, the Twins have at least two appealing candidates on hand to replace Barnes when his next turn in the rotation comes up Wednesday against the Cubs.

Allows three earned runs in no-decision
Barnes allowed three earned runs on four hits and one walk with two strikeouts through four innings, taking a no-decision in Saturday's 6-4 win over the Brewers.
Impact
Barnes allowed just one hit through his first four innings on Saturday but failed to record an out in a brutal top of the fifth. After sitting in the dugout for an eternity while Brewers' starter Adrian Houser had his own issues, Barnes allowed the first four batters he faced in the frame to reach on a walk and three singles before getting the hook. While giving up three earned runs in four innings is nobody's idea of a dream start, the left-hander didn't allow an extra-base hit. After getting shelled by the Yankees to the tune of seven earned runs last time out, this latest start from the rookie is at the very least an improvement.

Stumbles in loss to Yankees
Barnes (0-3) allowed seven runs on eight hits and five walks with two strikeouts in five innings, taking the loss versus the Yankees on Friday.
Impact
The 25-year-old yielded four runs in the first inning as the Yankees manufactured an early rally. Barnes' start didn't get a lot better after that, as he gave up a two-run home run to Aaron Judge in the second, but he was able to labor through five innings to match his longest appearance of the year. The southpaw has an ugly 6.56 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 11:10 K:BB across his first 23.1 major-league innings. He's projected for another tough matchup next week in Boston.

Logs best start of season
Barnes gave up one run on three hits and struck out three over five innings in his start Sunday against the Rays, but he didn't factor into the decision in Minnesota's 5-4 win.
Impact
Barnes had his best outing of the season against a tough Rays team, issuing no walks in the 73-pitch start. He could continue to get a shot in the rotation if he can limit the free passes, but his lack of swing-and-miss stuff keeps his fantasy upside low.

Labors as primary pitcher

Impact
After Barnes was lit up for five runs over four innings in an Aug. 4 start against the Reds, the Twins elected to have Beau Burrows work as an opener in front of the lefty Monday, when his next turn in the rotation came up. Though Barnes covered the bulk of the innings for Minnesota, he didn't factor into the decision after Burrows put the Twins in a 7-0 hole after two innings. Barnes wasn't especially effective while moping up for Minnesota, but the team's lack of appealing starting options could allow the 25-year-old to maintain his spot in the rotation for the time being.

Impact
Barnes made his second career start Aug. 4 in Cincinnati, covering four innings while giving up five runs on seven hits and two walks to take the loss. Though Barnes will remain in the Minnesota rotation for another turn, the Twins are hopeful that having him work behind an opener will yield better results. The arrangement could hurt Barnes from a workload perspective, though it should improve his chances of factoring into any decision.

Struggles in loss
Barnes (0-2) allowed five runs on seven hits and a pair of walks while striking out two in four innings, taking the loss in Wednesday's 6-5 defeat against the Reds.
Impact
Barnes held the Tigers to one run in 4.1 innings in his first start July 17 but was much less effective this time around. Though Barnes only yielded one extra-base hit, the Reds still managed to put five runs on the board early in Wednesday's contest. The rookie left-hander, with his 6.23 ERA and 1.62 WHIP, figures to be a mainstay in the starting rotation going forward now that Jose Berrios and J.A. Happ are out of the picture. He's scheduled to make his next start Monday against the White Sox.

Starting Wednesday
Barnes will start Wednesday's game at Cincinnati, Phil Miller of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
Impact
The left-hander made his first MLB start July 17 in Detroit and allowed one run over 4.2 innings, and he'll receive another start in Wednesday's series finale. Barnes should receive a longer look in Minnesota's rotation this time around with Jose Berrios and J.A. Happ shipped out at the trade deadline last week.

Recalled by Twins
Barnes was recalled by the Twins on Friday.
Impact
Barnes made his first career major-league appearance in mid-July, holding the Tigers to one run in a 4.2-inning start. He appears to be up as a reliever this time around, as he'll take the roster spot which had belonged to Hansel Robles, who was dealt to the Red Sox on Friday.

Returns to minors
The Twins optioned Barnes to Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday.
Impact
Due to doubleheaders Saturday against the Tigers and Monday against the White Sox, the Twins opened the second half with a seven-man rotation that included both Barnes and Griffin Jax. Barnes was called on to make his MLB debut in the first game of the twin bill with the Tigers, during which he took the loss after giving up one run on four hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. Jax, meanwhile, started the first game of Monday's doubleheader, but both he and Barnes will now head back to St. Paul as the Twins transition back to a normal five-man rotation.

ROTOWIRE
Charged with unlucky loss
Barnes (0-1) allowed one run on four hits and a walk while striking out one in 4.2 innings to take the loss in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Tigers.
Impact
Barnes made his major-league debut in Saturday's matinee, and he got off to a rough start by giving up a leadoff home run to Robbie Grossman. Although he was sharp during the remainder of his outing while throwing 43 of his 68 pitches for strikes, he didn't get any run support from the Twins' offense and was forced to settle for the loss. The southpaw posted a 3.88 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 58 innings across 11 starts at Triple-A St. Paul to begin the year, but it's not yet clear whether he'll remain in Minnesota's rotation going forward.
