Starting Tuesday Barnes will be recalled from Triple-A St. Paul to start Tuesday's game against the Tigers, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Impact Barnes was sent to St. Paul in mid-September, and he allowed one run on six hits and no walks while striking out four in four innings during a minor-league appearance Friday. He has a 6.61 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 31.1 innings across seven appearances (six starts) with the Twins this year and hasn't lasted longer than five innings in any of his big-league outings.

With Randy Dobnak (finger) potentially on track to return from the 60-day injured list this week and with prospect Joe Ryan making a compelling case for a promotion to the big leagues, the Twins have at least two appealing candidates on hand to replace Barnes when his next turn in the rotation comes up Wednesday against the Cubs.

Impact Barnes allowed just one hit through his first four innings on Saturday but failed to record an out in a brutal top of the fifth. After sitting in the dugout for an eternity while Brewers' starter Adrian Houser had his own issues, Barnes allowed the first four batters he faced in the frame to reach on a walk and three singles before getting the hook. Impact Barnes held the Tigers to one run in 4.1 innings in his first start July 17 but was much less effective this time around. Though Barnes only yielded one extra-base hit, the Reds still managed to put five runs on the board early in Wednesday's contest.
