Undergoes successful surgery
Carrasco underwent surgery Tuesday to remove a bone fragment from his right elbow.
Impact
Carrasco missed the first half of the 2021 campaign with a hamstring injury and recorded a 6.04 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in 53.2 innings across 12 starts. Although he'll require some time to recover following his elbow procedure, he's expected to resume baseball activities this winter. As a result, it seems likely that the right-hander will be ready for spring training in 2022.

Gives up five runs
Carrasco (1-5) was tagged with the loss Saturday against Atlanta after allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks while fanning five across five innings.
Impact
Carrasco had quite a few ups and downs throughout the season but ends the year on a sour note, as he gave up exactly five runs in each of his last two appearances. The veteran made 12 starts in his first year with the Mets and posted a woeful 6.04 ERA, a figure that represents his highest mark since 2013.

Lasts just four innings
Carrasco (1-4) allowed five runs on seven hits and four walks while striking out three over four innings as he took the loss to the Brewers on Sunday.
Impact
Carrasco struggled off the bat, as the Brewers got to him in the first on a two-run home run from Willy Adames. Three more runs would then end up scoring in the second on two walks, two base hits and an error. He would go on to toss a pair of scoreless innings afterward before his day was over. Sunday was the first time he's fallen short of reaching five innings since Aug. 15 when he gave up six runs in just two innings. Carrasco has now dropped back-to-back decisions and has allowed four walks in two of his last three starts. He owns a 5.73 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 45:16 K:BB over 48.2 innings this year. He's set for one more start next weekend against Atlanta.

In line to start Sunday
Carrasco (thumb) is listed as the Mets' probable pitcher for Sunday's game against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
Impact
Carrasco had been in line to start Saturday, but because of a team off day Thursday, the Mets will be able to tinker with their pitching schedule. Though Carrasco looks like he'll be fine after he jammed his right thumb in his last outing Sept. 18 against the Phillies, he'll get an extra day to recover from the injury with Rich Hill flipping spots with the right-hander in the rotation. Over his last six starts, Carrasco has gone 1-2 with a 3.51 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 30:9 K:BB in 33.1 innings.

Won't miss start

Impact
Carrasco hurt his thumb when fouling off a pitch at the plate and wound up leaving after 82 pitches. The issue isn't a significant one, however, so he's expected to return to the mound Saturday against the Brewers.

Managing thumb issue

Impact
Carrasco suffered the injury when he fouled off a pitch while batting during the fifth inning, though he retook the mound and completed one more frame. The 34-year-old threw 56 of 82 pitches for strikes, and the only damage against him came via a pair of solo homers from Jean Segura. It's unclear if the thumb issue will affect Carrasco's next turn through the rotation, which lines up for next weekend at Milwaukee.

Solid versus Yankees
Carrasco got a no-decision in Sunday's 7-6 win over the Yankees, allowing two runs on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts in five innings.
Impact
Carrasco started Sunday's game in poor fashion, walking the first two Yankees and surrendering both runs in the opening frame. He settled down thereafter and was actually spotted a 4-2 lead after the second inning, but the teams would go back and forth to eliminate Carrasco from the record. The 34-year-old has now permitted three runs or less in five straight starts and has a 3.62 ERA across 27.1 innings in the stretch.
