INJURIES

Pitches well in no-decision Quantrill allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Wednesday.
Impact Quantrill did his part, but the Rangers' bullpen couldn't maintain the lead after he exited. The veteran right-hander threw 50 of 85 pitches for strikes in his return to the rotation after serving as a reliever over the weekend. For now, it appears Quantrill will fill the vacated rotation spot of Nathan Eovaldi (elbow). Quantrill has filled a versatile role this year, pitching to a 3.44 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP and 49:22 K:BB over 70.2 innings across 25 games (eight starts). Should he stick in the rotation, he's tentatively lined up to make his next appearance at home in a tough matchup versus the Nationals.

Entering rotation Wednesday Quantrill is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Angels in Anaheim, Matt Postins of SI.com reports.
Impact The Rangers will go with Quantrill over Jordan Montgomery as the replacement in the rotation for Nathan Eovaldi (elbow), who was placed on the injured list Monday. Quantrill most recently made a one-inning relief appearance Saturday against the Orioles, but the right-hander had started or served as a bulk reliever in each of his prior eight appearances, going 1-4 with a 3.57 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB in 35.1 innings during that stretch.

Could move into rotation Texas manager Skip Schumaker mentioned Quantrill as a potential rotation fill-in for the injured Nathan Eovaldi (elbow), Kenndi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Impact The thrust of Landry's report was about Jordan Montgomery moving into the rotation, but Schumaker made a point to include Quantrill as a candidate. "Obviously [the replacment is] going to be internal, but as far as who that is, we'll see what these next two games look like... If we do end up going with somebody else internally, as far as Cal or Jordan or whatever we do, that's also going to change things as far as bullpen usage." Quantrill has made seven starts (3.34 ERA) for the Rangers this season, most recently throwing six innings against the Giants on Aug. 3.

Veteran lefty Jordan Montgomery activated from IL and will pitch out of Rangers bullpen

Moving to bullpen Rangers manager Skip Schumacher told reporters Friday that Quantrill will move out of the rotation and into the bullpen, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Impact The Rangers will go with a five-man rotation, which means both Quantrill and Jordan Montgomery will shift over to the bullpen, though their exact roles are yet to be determined. Quantrill has been a part of Texas' rotation since late June, and across seven starts he's posted a 1-4 record with a 3.51 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB over 33.1 innings. Though his role has yet to be announced, it wouldn't be surprising to see Quantrill operate as a long reliever out of the bullpen unless a spot opens up in the rotation over the last few weeks of the regular season.

Pitches well despite loss Quantrill (4-4) allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out four batters over six innings in a loss to San Francisco on Monday.
Impact Quantrill was hurt by two errors behind him in the second inning, allowing the Giants to scored a pair of unearned runs. The only other time San Francisco scored against him was when Jung Hoo Lee swatted a solo homer in the third. Quantrill retired 11 of the 13 batters he faced following that homer, but Texas' offense couldn't provide enough runs to take the righty off the hook. Despite the loss, Quantrill recorded his second quality start of the campaign (though it's worth nothing that he didn't move into the rotation until late June). He's produced a respectable 3.31 ERA over 35.1 frames since then, with all but one of his eight appearances coming as a starter. It remains to be seen, though, if Quantrill will remain in the rotation when Jordan Montgomery (elbow), Cody Bradford (elbow) and/or Jack Leiter (ankle) return from the injured list.

Strikes out seven in win Quantrill (4-3) earned the win after going 5.1 innings against Tampa Bay on Tuesday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out seven.
Impact After starting just his sixth game of the season in 22 appearances, Quantrill logged his fourth win of the season and his first since June 2. The 31-year-old punched out seven batters, notching his season-high in strikeouts, breaking his previous high of five, which he accomplished two different times. On the year, Quantrill now owns a 3.84 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 39:18 K:BB through 58.2 innings.

Takes loss in bulk-relief outing Quantrill (3-3) allowed two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one over three innings to take the loss versus the White Sox on Wednesday.
Impact Tyler Alexander allowed one run over the first two innings of the game before Quantrill came in for a bulk-relief assignment. It wasn't an encouraging performance, as Quantrill threw 30 of 55 pitches for strikes and gave up a pair of runs in the fourth inning, which was ultimately the difference. Over four games in July, Quantrill has yielded 12 runs (11 earned) across 18 innings with a 7:6 K:BB. He's posted a 4.05 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 32:17 K:BB through 53.1 innings over 21 games (five starts) overall. Quantrill could be at risk of losing his rotation spot once Jordan Montgomery (elbow) is activated from the 60-day injured list -- Montgomery has posted a 5.52 ERA over 14.2 innings across six outings during his rehab assignment.

Slated for bulk relief Wednesday Quantrill is expected to work in bulk relief behind opening pitcher Tyler Alexander during Wednesday's game against the White Sox, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact The White Sox will roll out a starting lineup featuring four left-handed bats in the top five spots, so the left-handed Alexander will likely work the first inning or two in an effort to neutralize those hitters. Quantrill is then expected to enter the game once Alexander exits, which should aid Quantrill's chances of coming away with a win. Quantrill had started in each of his last five appearances, going 0-2 with a 4.29 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 12:4 K:BB across 21 innings.

Roughed up by Atlanta Quantrill (3-2) took the loss against Atlanta on Friday, allowing six runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out three across four innings.
Impact Quantrill got out of the first inning unscathed after giving up two baserunners, but that's where the good news ended for the veteran right-hander. He gave up at least two runs in three of the next four frames, with four of those runs coming on two homers in the fourth inning. It was the most runs Quantrill gave up in a game since Aug. 28, 2025 against the Phillies, when he yielded nine runs across 3.1 innings. He sits at a 3.93 ERA and 1.29 WHIP across 50.1 innings this season. Quantrill is lined up to make his next start next week at home against the White Sox, which could be his last turn in the rotation if Jordan Montgomery (elbow) is cleared to be reinstated from the 60-day injured list.

Settles for no-decision Quantrill didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 7-3 win over Houston, allowing one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out one batter across six innings.
Impact The 31-year-old's lone run allowed came courtesy of Yordan Alvarez's homer in the sixth. Quantrill otherwise did a great job keeping the Astros' offense in check while allowing just two men to reach base between the third and sixth innings. He left the game with a 3-1 lead but was forced to settle for a no-decision after the Rangers' bullpen allowed Houston to tie the game in the seventh, leaving the righty still in search of his first win since June 3. Quantrill now owns a 2.12 ERA and 0.94 WHIP across 17 innings in four starts since joining the rotation.

Gets no help in first loss Quantrill (3-1) took the loss Saturday, giving up three runs (two earned) on three hits and a walk over five innings as the Rangers were blanked 3-0 by the Tigers. He struck out tw...
Impact The right-hander didn't pitch poorly, tossing 42 of 66 pitches for strikes before exiting the mound, but Texas' hitters managed only three hits -- giving Quantrill no margin for error after Riley Greene swatted a two-run homer in the first inning. The workload was Quantrill's largest of the year, both in terms of innings and pitch count, and through three starts since moving into the rotation he's produced a 2.45 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 8:2 K:BB over 11 innings. He lines up to get one more start before the All-Star break, at home next weekend against the Astros.

Start moved up to Saturday Quantrill will be the Rangers' starter Saturday against the Tigers, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Impact Quantrill was initially slated to start Sunday against Detroit, but he'll now take the mound Saturday while Kumar Rocker starts in the series finale. Quantrill has a 3.31 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB across 35.1 innings (17 games, two starts) this season.
JULY 4 • ROTOWIRE
Steps up on home soil Quantrill didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 7-4 win over the Blue Jays, scattering two hits and a walk over four scoreless innings. He struck out five.
Impact Making just his second career start in Toronto, the Canadian right-hander blanked the Jays over 55 pitches (36 strikes) but wasn't stretched out enough to qualify for the win and take advantage of a five-run fifth inning by the Rangers. Quantrill is making a case to remain in the rotation while Jack Leiter (ankle) is on the shelf, and he'll take a 3.31 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 25:11 K:BB through 35.1 innings and 17 appearances (two starts) into his next outing, which is set to come at home next week against the Tigers.
