INJURIES

Strikes out eight in loss Quantrill (6-5) took the loss against the Brewers on Saturday, allowing three runs on four hits and no walks with eight strikeouts over six innings.
Impact Quantrill was burned by two homers before settling in with four scoreless innings, generating 13 swinging strikes on 88 pitches en route to his third straight quality start. It continued a strong run for the 31-year-old, who boasts a 1.83 ERA over 39.1 innings since suffering a six-run loss July 17. He owns a 3.01 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 68:22 K:BB across 89.2 frames this season and lines up for a home matchup with the Rays next week.

Extends scoreless streak Quantrill (6-4) earned the win Sunday against the Angels, allowing six hits while striking out six over six scoreless innings.
Impact Quantrill threw 68 of his 96 pitches for strikes and didn't issue a walk for the second consecutive start. The right-hander has now completed at least five innings while allowing one run or fewer in five straight starts, lowering his ERA to 2.90 in the process. He's been especially sharp recently, extending his scoreless streak to 15 innings. Quantrill will look to keep rolling in his next scheduled start Saturday against the Brewers.

Blanks Nats across seven innings Quantrill (5-4) earned the win Tuesday against the Nationals, allowing four hits while striking out five over seven scoreless innings. He did not issue a walk.
Impact Quantrill delivered his longest outing as a Ranger while shutting down one of MLB's most dangerous lineups. He never allowed more than one baserunner in any inning and issued zero walks. The right-hander has made the most of his opportunity filling in for Nathan Eovaldi (elbow), allowing just one run across 12 innings in his two outings. Through nine starts and 17 relief appearances this season, Quantrill owns a 3.13 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 54:22 K:BB across 77.2 innings. He will seek to continue his recent success in his next scheduled start against the Angels.

Drawing another start Quantrill is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Nationals at Globe Life Field.
Impact The Rangers moved Quantrill to the bullpen last weekend, but he made just one relief appearance before he was plugged back into the rotation after Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) landed on the injured list. After taking a no-decision last Wednesday against the Angels while giving up one run over five innings, Quantrill will be awarded a second straight start. He'll tentatively line up for a two-start week, with another turn through the rotation awaiting him next Sunday at home versus the Angels.

Pitches well in no-decision Quantrill allowed one run on four hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings in a no-decision versus the Angels on Wednesday.
Impact Quantrill did his part, but the Rangers' bullpen couldn't maintain the lead after he exited. The veteran right-hander threw 50 of 85 pitches for strikes in his return to the rotation after serving as a reliever over the weekend. For now, it appears Quantrill will fill the vacated rotation spot of Nathan Eovaldi (elbow). Quantrill has filled a versatile role this year, pitching to a 3.44 ERA with a 1.20 WHIP and 49:22 K:BB over 70.2 innings across 25 games (eight starts). Should he stick in the rotation, he's tentatively lined up to make his next appearance at home in a tough matchup versus the Nationals.

Entering rotation Wednesday Quantrill is slated to start Wednesday's game against the Angels in Anaheim, Matt Postins of SI.com reports.
Impact The Rangers will go with Quantrill over Jordan Montgomery as the replacement in the rotation for Nathan Eovaldi (elbow), who was placed on the injured list Monday. Quantrill most recently made a one-inning relief appearance Saturday against the Orioles, but the right-hander had started or served as a bulk reliever in each of his prior eight appearances, going 1-4 with a 3.57 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 24:9 K:BB in 35.1 innings during that stretch.
AUGUST 12 • ROTOWIRE
Could move into rotation Texas manager Skip Schumaker mentioned Quantrill as a potential rotation fill-in for the injured Nathan Eovaldi (elbow), Kenndi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Impact The thrust of Landry's report was about Jordan Montgomery moving into the rotation, but Schumaker made a point to include Quantrill as a candidate. "Obviously [the replacment is] going to be internal, but as far as who that is, we'll see what these next two games look like... If we do end up going with somebody else internally, as far as Cal or Jordan or whatever we do, that's also going to change things as far as bullpen usage." Quantrill has made seven starts (3.34 ERA) for the Rangers this season, most recently throwing six innings against the Giants on Aug. 3.

AUGUST 7 • Associated Press
Moving to bullpen Rangers manager Skip Schumacher told reporters Friday that Quantrill will move out of the rotation and into the bullpen, Kennedi Landry of MLB.com reports.
Impact The Rangers will go with a five-man rotation, which means both Quantrill and Jordan Montgomery will shift over to the bullpen, though their exact roles are yet to be determined. Quantrill has been a part of Texas' rotation since late June, and across seven starts he's posted a 1-4 record with a 3.51 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB over 33.1 innings. Though his role has yet to be announced, it wouldn't be surprising to see Quantrill operate as a long reliever out of the bullpen unless a spot opens up in the rotation over the last few weeks of the regular season.

Pitches well despite loss Quantrill (4-4) allowed three runs (one earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out four batters over six innings in a loss to San Francisco on Monday.
Impact Quantrill was hurt by two errors behind him in the second inning, allowing the Giants to scored a pair of unearned runs. The only other time San Francisco scored against him was when Jung Hoo Lee swatted a solo homer in the third. Quantrill retired 11 of the 13 batters he faced following that homer, but Texas' offense couldn't provide enough runs to take the righty off the hook. Despite the loss, Quantrill recorded his second quality start of the campaign (though it's worth nothing that he didn't move into the rotation until late June). He's produced a respectable 3.31 ERA over 35.1 frames since then, with all but one of his eight appearances coming as a starter. It remains to be seen, though, if Quantrill will remain in the rotation when Jordan Montgomery (elbow), Cody Bradford (elbow) and/or Jack Leiter (ankle) return from the injured list.

Strikes out seven in win Quantrill (4-3) earned the win after going 5.1 innings against Tampa Bay on Tuesday, allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out seven.
Impact After starting just his sixth game of the season in 22 appearances, Quantrill logged his fourth win of the season and his first since June 2. The 31-year-old punched out seven batters, notching his season-high in strikeouts, breaking his previous high of five, which he accomplished two different times. On the year, Quantrill now owns a 3.84 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 39:18 K:BB through 58.2 innings.
JULY 29 • ROTOWIRE
Takes loss in bulk-relief outing Quantrill (3-3) allowed two runs on two hits and three walks while striking out one over three innings to take the loss versus the White Sox on Wednesday.
Impact Tyler Alexander allowed one run over the first two innings of the game before Quantrill came in for a bulk-relief assignment. It wasn't an encouraging performance, as Quantrill threw 30 of 55 pitches for strikes and gave up a pair of runs in the fourth inning, which was ultimately the difference. Over four games in July, Quantrill has yielded 12 runs (11 earned) across 18 innings with a 7:6 K:BB. He's posted a 4.05 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 32:17 K:BB through 53.1 innings over 21 games (five starts) overall. Quantrill could be at risk of losing his rotation spot once Jordan Montgomery (elbow) is activated from the 60-day injured list -- Montgomery has posted a 5.52 ERA over 14.2 innings across six outings during his rehab assignment.
