Impact He got the Marlins on the board by taking Logan Gilbert deep in the sixth inning, but they were already in a 5-0 hole at that point. Anderson has been getting consistent playing time lately, splitting his time between third base and the outfield corners, and while the 28-year-old has hit safely in five straight games, his power production has been lackluster. In 63 plate appearances this season, Anderson is slashing .269/.397/.423 with just one homer and two RBI, although he has added 10 runs and a steal.

Avoids arbitration Anderson agreed to a one-year, $4.475 million contract with the Marlins on Tuesday, avoiding arbitration, Craig Mish of SportsGrid.com reports.

Impact Anderson will receive a modest raise in his second season of arbitration eligibility following a down 2021 season. Shoulder and oblique issues limited him to 67 games, and he hit just .249/.337/.378 when available. With the Marlins bringing in Joey Wendle this offseason, Anderson is expected to see more reps in the outfield in 2022 as he aims to maintain an everyday spot in the lineup.

"I'm always open to it," said Anderson. "I haven't done it [played outfield] in a couple of years. But the last couple of times that I did it, it helped me out and helped the team out. That's my job now, especially getting a guy like Wendle that can play multiple positions. We've got guys like [Jon] Berti, [Miguel Rojas] [and Jazz Chisholm Jr.] who play multiple positions. So I think we're just going to run the best lineup out there every single day. And if that means I'm in the outfield, then I'm in the outfield." Anderson last saw outfield action in 2019 when he played 55 games in right field, but he's never played left as a professional. Before he plays anywhere, however, he'll have to demonstrate his surgically repaired shoulder is back to 100 percent.
