Jarren Duran - Lands on COVID IL Duran (undisclosed) was placed on the COVID-19 injured list Friday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact According to Bill Koch of The Providence Journal, Duran has exhibited COVID-like symptoms but is awaiting his test results. If he tests negative he should be able to rejoin the team during this weekend's series against the Blue Jays, assuming he's not feeling too under the weather. Jonathan Arauz was recalled from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move.

Jarren Duran - Remains on bench Friday Duran is not in the lineup Friday against the Blue Jays, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact Duran was held out of Thursday's starting nine versus a left-handed starter, and he remains on the bench Friday despite the fact righty Alex Manoah is pitching for Toronto. The rookie outfielder is slashing .176/.204/.353 with a 38.9 percent strikeout rate through his first 17 big-league contests. Enrique Hernandez will move to center field while Marwin Gonzalez starts at the keystone.

Niko Goodrum - Expected back Tuesday Goodrum (calf) isn't expected to return to the active roster before Tuesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact Goodrum has been out since mid-July with a calf issue, though he's now been on a rehab assignment for a full week. He's gone just 4-for-18 with eight strikeouts across five rehab games, so there's certainly an argument to be made that he needs a bit more time before he's ready to go. It's also possible the Tigers simply see no need to activate the 29-year-old when they could instead keep some younger alternatives in the lineup for a few more days.

Robbie Grossman - Not starting Tuesday Grossman is not in the lineup for Friday's game against Cleveland, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Impact Grossman left Thursday's game after getting hit in his elbow by a pitch. The injury is evidently bad enough to cost him at least one start, though whether or not it will lead to an extended absence is not yet clear. Akil Baddoo and Victor Reyes will start in the outfield corners Friday.

Zack Short - Not starting Friday Short is not in the starting lineup Friday against Cleveland, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.
Impact Short will sit for the second time in four games as he continues to struggle through a 4-for-48 slump that dates back to July 18. Harold Castro will start at shortstop and bat third Friday.

Riley Greene - Stuck in deep power drought Greene has gone 20 consecutive games without a home run for Double-A Erie -- a span of 87 plate appearances in which he's hit .237/.333/.316 with just one RBI, two steals and a 10:...
Impact The 34.4 percent strikeout rate he's posted in that span is troubling, and it's not improving, as he's whiffed eight times in the last four games. He also hasn't collected an extra-base hit of any sort in more than a week. One of the most highly regarded hitting prospects in the game, Greene still has a palatable .275/.364/.449 season line with Erie, so this could just be a spell of normal regression for a 20-year-old playing at a fairly high level of baseball. Nonetheless, it certainly isn't going to accelerate his progress toward the big leagues; in fact, it's made it all but certain that he won't crack the majors this year.

Spencer Torkelson - Struggling to string hits together Torkelson's last 23 games in Double-A have seen him go 16-for-75 (.213) with four homers, 13 RBI, 13 runs and a 17:24 BB:K.
Impact Even in the midst of this slump, which has driven his batting average for Erie down to .241, Torkelson's pop and plate discipline have been readily apparent, which is why he still has a .369 OBP and .511 slugging percentage. It's likely that the 2020 draft's No. 1 pick has just been getting unlucky, as he owns a .250 BABIP in Double-A play. He remains one of the game's top prospects, but that subpar batting average may offer an intriguing buy-low opportunity in dynasty formats.
