Chris Herrmann - Activated from IL Triple-A Worcester reinstated Herrmann from its 7-day injured list Wednesday, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
Impact The journeyman catcher had been on the shelf since Sept. 18 with the right elbow injury. Herrmann has played exclusively for Worcester in 2021, hitting .222 with seven home runs and 20 RBI across 180 plate appearances.

Phillips Valdez - Starts up rehab assignment Valdez (illness) joined Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday to begin a rehab assignment, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
Impact Valdez has been on the COVID-19 injured list since Sept. 12 after testing positive for the virus. Before being shut down due to the illness, Valdez had mostly pitched in low-leverage spots out of the Boston bullpen, so the team probably won't be eager to rush him back from the IL before the regular season comes to an end Sunday.

Danny Santana - Cleared for rehab assignment Santana (illness) joined Triple-A Worcester on Wednesday to begin a rehab assignment, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.
Impact Santana has been on the COVID-19 injured list since Sept. 11 after testing positive for the virus, so he could need at least a few days' worth of workouts before the Red Sox are comfortable activating him. If Santana rejoins Boston for its final series of the regular season this weekend in Washington, he would likely serve as a utility man.

Garrett Whitlock - Bullpen session on tap Whitlock (pectoral) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Friday, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
Impact If Whitlock checks out fine following the bullpen session, he could be activated from the 10-day injured list as soon as Saturday, provided the Red Sox are still in the mix for one of the American League's two wild-card spots. The 25-year-old rookie right-hander has been Boston's most valuable reliever in terms of WAR (1.5) this season, posting a 1.99 ERA and 1.12 WHIP while collecting 15 holds, eight wins and two saves over 72.1 innings.
SEPTEMBER 30, 2021 ROTOWIRE
Bruce Zimmermann - On track to start Sunday Zimmermann is expected to start Sunday in the Orioles' season finale against the Blue Jays in Toronto, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.
Impact After a three-and-a-half-month stint on the injured list due to biceps tendinitis and a severe ankle sprain, Zimmermann rejoined the Baltimore rotation Tuesday. He turned in a respectable showing en route to taking a no-decision against the Red Sox, working four innings while allowing a run on two hits and two walks. Zimmermann shouldn't face any significant restrictions with his workload Sunday after building up to 70 pitches Tuesday.
