Impact Walston picked up the win in Tuesday's extra-innings victory over the Royals but finds himself back in the minors a day later. The win was the lefty's first in the majors since 2024, as he missed the 2025 campaign following Tommy John surgery.

Activated from IL The Diamondbacks reinstated Walston (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Impact Walston has been on the injured list all season while recovering from a Tommy John procedure he underwent last spring. He was cleared to begin a rehab assignment Aug. 4 and has since given up four earned runs in 7.2 innings at Triple-A Reno. The 25-year-old lefty will join the D-backs' bullpen as a long reliever now that he's fully healthy, though he could still be developed as a starter in the future. Ryan Thompson (back) was placed on the 60-day IL in a corresponding move.

Impact Walston had been a full-time starter throughout his minor-league career and started in two of his seven appearances for the Diamondbacks in 2024 before undergoing Tommy John surgery last spring. The Diamondbacks may still be viewing the 25-year-old as a starter for the long haul, but he looks as though he'll be preparing for a multi-inning relief role for the remainder of the season once he returns from the 60-day injured list. He's been used out of the bullpen for each of his first three rehab appearances, covering four innings while striking out three and allowing one unearned run on two hits and no walks.
