Impact Cook finished the past season on the shelf at Triple-A Indianapolis due to a hand injury, but he looks to be fully healthy for spring training. The 27-year-old will be competing for a reserve spot in the Pirates' Opening Day outfield, but the fact that he has two minor-league options could work against him in his efforts to break camp with the big club.

Impact Cook hadn't played since being hit on the hand by a pitch in an Aug. 3 game, and though he said Saturday that he had shown improvement in his recovery, Indianapolis still chose to deactivate him. The 26-year-old has slashed .245/.321/.379 with eight home runs and 13 stolen bases in 380 plate appearances for Indianapolis this season.

Moves up from Triple-A The Pirates recalled Cook from Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday.

Impact Cook has met up with the Pirates in Detroit and will likely be available for at least the remaining two games of the team's series versus the Tigers to provide extra coverage in the outfield after Bryan Reynolds (personal) was placed on the paternity list in a corresponding move. Reynolds will have to be activated by Saturday, at which point Cook will most likely head back to Indianapolis. Cook had spent the entire 2025 season at Triple-A, slashing .266/.350/.329 with no home runs and 10 steals over 62 games.
