On track to start Thursday Ober (elbow) is expected to be activated from the 15-day injured list and start Thursday's game versus the Guardians, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Impact Ober has made two rehab starts, allowing a total of seven runs with a 6:0 K:BB over 8.1 innings. The big right-hander went five frames and tossed 76 pitches in his last rehab outing, so he should be prepared for close to a regular workload against Cleveland. Ober has been on the shelf since late May while nursing a right flexor strain.
JULY 8 • ROTOWIRE
Completes 76-pitch rehab start Ober (elbow) struck out five and allowed four earned runs on six hits and no walks across five innings in a rehab start Saturday with Triple-A St. Paul.
Impact After tossing 3.1 innings in his first rehab appearance with High-A Cedar Rapids on June 28, Ober moved up a couple of levels for his second outing in the minors. The right-hander induced five whiffs and pushed his pitch count up to 76 (50 strikes), with all reports afterward indicating that Ober's elbow checked out fine following the start, per MLB.com. Ober is likely to throw a bullpen session Monday or Tuesday, and if all goes well, he could return from the 15-day injured list to make his next start this weekend during the Twins' series versus the Angels.

Starts up rehab assignment Ober (elbow) struck out one batter and allowed three earned runs on seven hits and no walks over 3.1 innings in a rehab start Sunday with High-A Cedar Rapids.
Impact After completing a throwing progression, Ober was cleared to kick off a rehab assignment Sunday. Per Aaron Gleeman of AaronGleeman.com, the Twins were planning for Ober to throw around 50 pitches in his first game action since May 30. He ended up narrowly exceeding that limit, spotting 38 of his 57 pitches for strikes in the rehab outing. Ober will likely need at least one more appearance in the minors to get further stretched out, but he appears on pace to return from the 15-day injured list shortly before the All-Star break. Ober has been on the shelf since June 1 due to a right flexor strain.

Twins starting pitcher Mick Abel will have arthroscopic surgery after elbow injury setback

Minnesota Twins right-hander Mick Abel has been recommended for arthroscopic elbow surgery after a recent setback in his injury recovery

Set for second bullpen session Ober (elbow) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Tuesday, Theodore Tollefson of ZoneCoverage.com reports.
Impact Ober got back on a mound Saturday for the first time since landing on the injured list May 31, completing a 25-pitch bullpen session that apparently went off without a hitch. The right-hander is working his way back from a mild flexor strain and will still need to face hitters in live batting practice before the Twins send him out on a rehab assignment. Ober remains without a definitive timeline for a return, but he could have a chance at rejoining the Minnesota rotation during the final week before the All-Star break if he steers clear of any setbacks or delays in his throwing progression.

Aiming to resume mound work Ober (elbow) is optimistic about throwing off the mound this weekend, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Impact It would be the first time he's thrown from the bump since he was diagnosed with a right flexor strain at the beginning of June. Ober has been shelved for less than three weeks, so it shouldn't take him too long to get built back up once he does resume throwing off the mound. He's collected a 4.59 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 46:18 K:BB over 66.2 innings this season.

Sidelined for two weeks Ober has a mild flexor strain and will be shut down for 10-14 days, reports Dan Hayes of The Athletic
Impact Ober will not pitch for around two weeks after exiting Saturday's start against Pittsburgh with what is now determined as a mild flexor strain. Minnesota is slightly optimistic about the injury due to his UCL still being intact. Through 12 starts this season, Ober has recorded a 6-3 record with a 4.59 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 46:18 K:BB.

MAY 31 • MLB.COM
Shelved with elbow inflammation The Twins placed Ober on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right elbow inflammation.
Impact Ober had been on a roll over a stretch of seven starts prior to Saturday, going 4-2 with a 3.19 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 29:12 K:BB in 42.1 innings during that span. That impressive run came to a screeching halt, however, as Ober was lit up for eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits -- including three home runs -- and one walk in 4.2 innings in a loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday. The elbow issue may have played a factor in Ober's poor command, and the right-hander will now be on the shelf through at least mid-June while he recovers from the injury. Minnesota called up right-hander Mike Paredes from Triple-A St. Paul in a corresponding move, and if he isn't needed in relief over the next few days, he could be a candidate to replace Ober in the rotation the next time the Twins need a fifth starter.
MAY 31 • ROTOWIRE
Ambushed in loss Ober (6-3) took the loss against the Pirates on Saturday, allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 12 hits and one walk with three strikeouts over 4.2 innings.
Impact Ober allowed 12 hard-hit balls and was mostly undone by a six-run second inning that included two of the three homers he surrendered. The 30-year-old's complete-game shutout now looks like the outlier in an otherwise rough May, as he yielded 19 earned runs across his other four outings during the month. He now owns a 4.59 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 46:18 K:BB over 66.2 innings this season and lines up for a home matchup against the Royals next week.

Mixed results in win Ober (6-2) earned the win against the Red Sox on Sunday, allowing four runs on seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts over five innings.
Impact Ober filled the zone with 59 strikes on 82 pitches, but three of the four runs he surrendered came via two homers. The 30-year-old has now yielded seven earned runs across 10 innings since throwing a complete-game shutout May 12, though he was still able to log at least five frames for the ninth straight outing. He'll carry a 3.92 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 43:17 K:BB across 62 innings this season into a road matchup against the Pirates.

Twins have maintained their starting pitching strength despite losing ace Pablo López for the season

The Twins have stayed afloat in a wide-open American League during the first third of the 2026 schedule with repeated winning performances by their starting pitchers
MAY 21 • Associated Press
Secures fifth win Ober (5-2) allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one over five innings to earn the win over the Brewers on Sunday.
Impact Ober wasn't nearly as dominant as in his last start, which was a complete-game shutout versus the Marlins on Tuesday. He threw 46 of 77 pitches for strikes and was tagged for home runs by Garrett Mitchell and Christian Yelich, accounting for two of the three runs on the right-hander's line. Ober has allowed two runs or fewer in four of his last six outings, but it's fair that he wasn't quite as sharp against a tough opponent. He's at a 3.63 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 40:17 K:BB through 57 innings over 10 starts this season. Ober's next start is projected to be on the road in Boston.
