Work with hip specialist paying off Ober worked with a specialist much of the offseason after dealing with a nagging hip issue in 2025 and has noticed a "big difference," Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Impact Ober posted a 5.10 ERA over 27 starts last season and saw his average four-seamer velocity tumble from 91.7 mph to 90.3 mph year-over-year. The 30-year-old also lost the command he had been known for, but he is now fully healthy and seems optimistic about a bounce-back season in 2026. Prior to 2025, Ober had a career 3.76 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, 25.6 percent strikeout rate and 5.4 percent walk rate.

Impact Ober suggested at TwinsFest this past weekend that he has fully recovered this offseason. It's worth noting that even when he went on the IL and missed the month of July, he never fully was shut down, instead attacking the inflammation with medication all while throwing on the side. It's difficult to buy into a complete turnaround given the depths of his collapse last season, but at least we have an explanation for it.

Settles at $5.2 million Ober signed a one-year, $5.2 million contract with the Twins on Thursday to avoid arbitration, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.

Impact Ober endured his worst season in the big leagues in 2025, turning in a 5.10 ERA and 1.30 WHIP over 146.1 innings with Minnesota. His second year of arbitration eligibility will grant him a $1.65 million raise, however, and his spot in the Twins' rotation appears to be safe.

The six runs allowed represented his worst showing since he got tagged for seven runs by the Tigers at the end of June prior to landing on the IL with a hip issue, but Ober's given up at least four runs in four of his last five trips to the mound, sagging to a 6.49 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 22:5 K:BB through 26.1 innings over that stretch. He'll put a disappointing 2025 to bed with one more start, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend in Philadelphia.
