Yuli Gurriel - Will be re-introduced to third base Gurriel will begin to play some third base at Triple-A Gwinnett, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Impact Gurriel is 40 and hasn't started a game at the hot corner since 2019, but Atlanta wants him prepared to play the position, if needed, following the injury to Austin Riley (hand). Signed to a minor-league contract in April, Gurriel is slashing .300/.380/.498 with 12 home runs over 72 games with Gwinnett.

Nacho Alvarez - Out at Triple-A with pneumonia Alvarez has not played for Triple-A Gwinnett since Aug. 14 while battling pneumonia, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Impact If healthy, Alvarez would be a candidate to see time at third base for Atlanta while Austin Riley (hand) is sidelined. However, he's currently unavailable and it's not clear when he'll be ready to play again. Alvarez went just 3-for-30 with a 10:0 K:BB over eight games in an earlier stint with the big club.

Austin Riley - To miss 6-8 weeks An MRI revealed Monday that Riley has a fractured right hand and will miss approximately six to eight weeks.
Impact Initial testing on Riley's hand after Sunday's HBP was inconclusive, but Monday's MRI revealed the third baseman is dealing with a fracture. The six-to-eight-week timeline all but guarantees Riley won't return before October, with Atlanta's final regular-season contest being exactly six weeks away from Sunday, when he sustained the injury. Atlanta currently holds the NL's third and final Wild Card spot, so there's a chance Riley could be back for postseason play. In the meantime, Luke Williams and Whit Merrifield should fill in at third base, though Nacho Alvarez could be recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett once Riley hits the IL.
