Last Night in Baseball: So it Turns Out the Cubs Can Stop the Brewers

Losing out on starts to Durbin Seigler remains out of the lineup for the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader with the Cubs.

Impact Seigler had started at third base in five of the Brewers' first eight games of August as manager Pat Murphy more proactively shielded rookie Caleb Durbin from right-handed pitching, but Durbin has since re-established himself as Milwaukee's clear top option at the hot corner. Over the last nine games, Seigler has cracked the lineup just once while Durbin has started in the other eight contests.

Idle against lefty Seigler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Impact The switch-hitting Seigler has been seeing more starts against right-handed pitching lately at Caleb Durbin's expense, but Durbin remains the Brewers' clear top option at third base when Milwaukee faces a lefty, such as Mets starter Sean Manaea. Seigler has done little at the plate to earn extra playing time however, batting just .192 (5-for-26) since the All-Star break with zero extra-base hits.

Idle against lefty Seigler is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mets.

Impact The switch-hitting Seigler has been seeing more starts against right-handed pitching lately at Caleb Durbin's expense, but the right-handed hitting Durbin remains the Brewers' clear top option at third base when Milwaukee faces lefties. Durbin will spell Seigler at the hot corner and bat leadoff Sunday while the Mets send southpaw Sean Manaea to the bump.

Getting second straight start Seigler will start at third base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Nationals.

Impact Seigler will make a second straight start at third base in place of Caleb Durbin after going 1-for-4 with his second stolen base of the season in Saturday's 8-2 win. The Brewers haven't indicated that Durbin is dealing with an injury, so Seigler is still projected to handle a limited backup role in the Milwaukee infield if Durbin rejoins the lineup during the upcoming week.

JULY 1, 2025 • JSONLINE.COM

Officially added to roster The Brewers selected Seigler's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Tuesday.

Impact Seigler is a versatile player capable of handling catcher, second base and third base. He's a switch hitter but is a much better hitter from the left side of the plate, sporting a .975 OPS against righties as compared to a .445 OPS versus lefties. Seigler will be making his major-league debut when/if he gets into a game.

Call-up pending The Brewers are expected to call up Seigler from Triple-A Nashville, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reported Sunday.

The 26-year-old has slashed .277/.416/.465 with seven home runs and 20 stolen bases over 267 plate appearances with Nashville this season. He's split time between second base, third base and catcher this season. It'll be his MLB debut if he gets into a game.

JUNE 30, 2025 • ROTOWIRE

Signs with Milwaukee as NRI The Brewers signed Seigler to a minor-league contract Nov. 19 that includes an invitation to spring training.

Impact Seigler was a first-round pick of the Yankees back in 2018 but has yet to advance past the Double-A level, having slashed .234/.350/.398 with 12 homers and 29 steals at Double-A Somerset in 2024. He was a full-time second baseman last season after primarily being a catcher previously. Seigler will likely begin the 2025 season at Triple-A Nashville.
