Moves to IL The Pirates placed Alford (back) on the 10-day injured list Sunday.

Impact Back spasms prevented Alford from starting either end of Saturday's doubleheader with the Brewers, and now the Pirates will give him at least another week off to recover from the injury. Ben Gamel (hamstring) was reinstated from the IL in a corresponding move, and he should take back an everyday role in the corner outfield while Alford is on the mend. Before succumbing to the back injury, Alford went 4-for-17 with 10 strikeouts since being called up from Triple-A Indianapolis on Aug. 7.
