Strikes out two in no-decision Abbott (0-1) didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Marlins, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts across 5.1 innings.
Impact The Marlins scored both of their runs against Abbott in the fourth inning on a pair of groundouts. Abbott was in line to take his second loss of the season before the Reds rallied to tie the game in the ninth before winning it in the 10th inning. Abbott will carry a 3.18 ERA and 11:6 K:BB across 17 innings into his next start at home Sunday against the Angels.

Bounced by Bucs Abbott (0-1) took the loss Wednesday, giving up four runs on five hits and three walks over 5.2 innings as the Reds fell 8-3 to the Pirates. He struck out five.
Impact The big blow off Abbott was a three-run homer by Oneil Cruz in the first inning, and while the southpaw settled down from there, that was too much of a cushion to give Paul Skenes. Abbott tossed 55 of 88 pitches for strikes, and through his first two starts of the year he's managed a 3.09 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 9:4 K:BB in 11.2 innings. He'll look for his first win of 2026 in his next outing, which is set to come on the road next week in Miami.

Turns around rough spring Abbott allowed seven hits and one walk while striking out four over six scoreless innings, picking up a no-decision in Thursday's 3-0 loss to the Red Sox.
Impact Abbott pitched into and out of trouble in three of his innings, but he matched zeroes with Boston's Garrett Crochet on the scoreboard. The seven hits off the Reds' left-hander were all singles, four of which didn't leave the infield. It was an encouraging outing for Abbott, who had a shocking 11.72 ERA in spring training. He's become the team's No. 1 starter with Hunter Green (elbow) unavailable and on the 60-day injured list.

Another shaky outing Abbott allowed five runs (three earned) on four hits and one walk while striking out five over 4.2 innings in Saturday's spring start against the White Sox.
Impact Abbott made his sixth and final Cactus League start before his scheduled start Opening Day against the Red Sox. The good news is that the right-hander upped his pitch count to 84 (52 strikes), and he was better than his previous outing (eight runs, eight hits, three walks, two innings). He finished the spring having allowed home runs in all six starts with an 11.72 ERA, eight walks, 28 hits and 22 strikeouts over 17.2 innings.

Roughed up again Abbott allowed eight runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out three over two innings in Monday's spring start against the Diamondbacks.
Impact Abbott was roughed up again in his fifth Cactus League start and needed 76 pitches to get those six outs. He was pulled with none out in the third inning to ensure a fourth up-and-down, and then he was chased early in the fourth after giving up two hits and a walk. The left-hander is having a difficult spring with a 13.85 ERA and allowed multiple runs in all five spring outings. Abbott will get one more start and hopes to figure out his mechanics before taking the ball Opening Day next week against the Red Sox.

Deals with traffic Wednesday Abbott allowed two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out five over 3.2 innings in Wednesday's spring start against Milwaukee.
Impact Abbott labored early and required 69 pitches to get those 11 outs in his fourth Cactus League start and first since being tabbed to start Opening Day, March 26, against the Red Sox. After allowing a walk and three hits (including a two-run home run) in a 25-pitch first inning, he got into immediate trouble in the second when the first two batters singled. The lefty squelched the threat with a pick-off and double-play grounder. Abbott then had less eventful third and four innings.

Named Opening Day starter The Reds announced Sunday that Abbott will start Opening Day against the Red Sox on March 26.
Impact The left-hander had a breakout 2025 campaign, during which he posted a 2.87 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 149:43 K:BB across 166.1 innings during the regular season. He was always in the mix to start Opening Day, but Hunter Greene's elbow issues left Abbott as the obvious answer to take the ball first for Cincinnati in 2026.

Runs allowed again Abbott allowed four runs on five hits and one walk while striking out five over 2.2 innings in Friday's spring start against the Giants. He also hit a batter and allowed two stolen...
Impact Abbott allowed runs in all three innings, including his third home run in 7.1 Cactus League innings. The best news coming out of the left-hander's third spring start are the five punchouts, and he upped his pitch count to 63 (39 strikes). Abbott explained to Charlie Goldsmith of Charlie's Chalkboard that he was more focused on working his pitches than the results of Friday's outing.
MARCH 7 • ROTOWIRE
One good inning Abbott allowed four runs on three hits and one walk while striking out two over 2.2 innings in Sunday's spring start against the Athletics.
Impact Abbott sandwiched two troublesome innings around a perfect second frame. Three batters in, the Reds were down, 2-0, as Abbott surrendered a two-run home run. It was the second homer allowed in as many games. The left-hander then retired seven of the next eight batters before ceding a two-out, run-producing double in the third, which ended his day. Abbott worked his pitch count to 43 (28 strikes) in his second Cactus League start.
MARCH 2 • ROTOWIRE
Makes spring debut Abbott allowed two runs on two hits and struck out two over two innings in Tuesday's spring start against Kansas City.
Impact Abbott was pleased with his Cactus League debut, telling Mark Sheldon of MLB.com that he threw all five of his pitches and was encouraged by his efficiency (27 pitches, 17 strikes). The lone blemish was a two-out, two-run home run allowed to Josh Rojas. The left-hander is having a normal camp, which is a change from last season, when he didn't make his spring debut until March 18 due to recovery from a shoulder injury and opened the regular season on the injured list.
