Relegated to OKC The Dodgers optioned Freeland to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

Impact Freeland has made just three plate appearances since the All-Star break, and he'll now end up as the odd man out of a roster spot following Enrique Hernandez's (oblique) return from the IL. Freeland has slashed just .231/.309/.313 across 223 plate appearances with the big club this season but would be a likely candidate to return to Los Angeles if the Dodgers' infield depth is tested again down the stretch.

Impact After being called up to the big club in late May, Freeland had settled back into a near-everyday role at second base, but his playing time has begun to dry up now that Teoscar Hernandez has settled back in as a regular in the Los Angeles lineup following his return from the injured list June 29. With Hernandez taking control of left field, Tommy Edman has seen fewer opportunities in the outfield but has begun to poach playing time from Freeland at second base. Freeland will be on the bench for a fourth consecutive game and could soon be headed back to Triple-A Oklahoma City if his opportunities remain limited.

Impact Freeland has started at second base in five of the Dodgers' seven games in July, including three times against right-handers.
