INJURIES

Knocks two hits Dalbec went 2-for-4 with an RBI and stole his second base of the season in Monday's 7-2 loss to Toronto.
Impact Dalbec got the start at first base against right-hander Kevin Gausman, which is usually Franchy Cordero's role. The decision to use Dalbec may signal a change in the platoon at first base. He has a .273 average and .805 OPS since May 26; over that same stretch, Cordero is batting .221 with a .687 OPS.

Starting streak ends Dalbec is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Impact Franchy Cordero is receiving the nod at first base, but Dalbec is effectively being replaced in the lineup by Triple-A Worcester call-up Jarren Duran, who is joining the starting outfield. Cordero had been seeing more time in the outfield of late following Enrique Hernandez's (hip) recent placement on the injured list, which had allowed Dalbec to earn more work against right-handed pitching. Dalbec started each of Boston's last seven contests.

Piling up starts Dalbec will start at first base and bat eighth in Tuesday's game against the Athletics, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Impact The righty-hitting Dalbec's inclusion in the lineup against a left-handed starting pitcher (Jared Koenig) doesn't come as much of a surprise, but the 26-year-old first baseman has been picking up more work versus right-handed pitching of late as well. Dalbec will pick up his seventh start in a row Tuesday, with six coming at first base. Platoon mate Franchy Cordero -- who is on the bench for the second game in a row due to the lefty-on-lefty matchup -- has been seeing more work in the outfield of late while Enrique Hernandez (hip) has been on the injured list.

Goes deep against hometown team Dalbec went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Friday's 4-3 win over the Mariners.
Impact Dalbec has hit safely in four straight games, going 6-for-15 (.400) in that span. His homer in the seventh inning Friday restored a lead for the Red Sox. The first baseman got his average over the Mendoza Line for the first time since April 13 with the two-hit effort -- he's now slashing .201/.280/.329 with four homers, 15 RBI, 19 runs scored and a stolen base in 168 plate appearances.

Drives in lone run Dalbec started at third base and went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and an RBI in Wednesday's 1-0 win over the Angels.
Impact Dalbec filled in for a resting Rafael Devers against lefty Reid Detmers and delivered Alex Verdugo from first base with a sixth-inning double. It was encouraging that the hit came against a righty (reliever Jimmy Herget), which has been the source of many of Dalbec's failings and resulted in him being on the short side of a platoon at first base. He's picked it up at the plate recently, posting a .286/.359/.514 slash line with two home runs and seven RBI over the last 12 contests, but that comes mostly in favorable matchups.

Knocks in two, steals base in win Dalbec went 2-for-5 with two RBI and a stolen base in Tuesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Angels.
Impact Both of Dalbec's hits were RBI singles, which came in the second and sixth innings. The first baseman also picked up his first stolen base of the year in the sixth. Tuesday marked just his sixth multi-hit effort of the season, ending a 1-for-11 skid at the plate to start June. Overall, he's posted an uninspiring .187/.269/.295 slash line with three homers, 12 RBI, 18 runs scored, four doubles and a triple through 156 plate appearances. Dalbec saw a little extra playing time while Jackie Bradley was on the paternity list, but now that he's back with the team, Franchy Cordero is likely to return to the strong side of a platoon at first base. That will limit Dalbec mainly to starting against left-handed pitchers.

Starts against RHP Dalbec went 0-for-2 with two walks and a run scored in Friday's 7-2 win over the Athletics.
Impact Dalbec, who normally sits against right-handers, was in the starting lineup against Oakland righty James Kaprielian, while Franchy Cordero covered right field for Jackie Bradley who was placed on the paternity list Friday. The Red Sox recalled outfielder Jarren Duran for the series, but he didn't arrive to the ballpark until close to opening pitch. With Oakland scheduled to throw righties Saturday and Sunday, manager Alex Cora told Sonja Chen of MLB.com that Duran would likely play in both games this weekend. That suggests Cordero would move back to first base and Dalbec would sit.

Swats pinch-hit homer Dalbec went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Game 1 of Saturday's doubleheader against Baltimore.
Impact Dalbec pinch hit for Franchy Cordero and broke a 3-3 tie with just his second homer of the season and first since April 10. He also had a hit in the nightcap, giving him at least one knock in three straight games. Relegated to starting against left-handers and an occasional righty, Dalbec's playing time is scattered, and he isn't helping fantasy teams at this time.

Enters for Verdugo Dalbec went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI in Saturday's 6-5 win over Seattle.
Impact Per usual these days, Dalbec was not in the starting lineup against a righty, but he entered after Alex Verdugo was removed with flu-like symptoms. Franchy Cordero shifted from first base to left field, while Dalbec took Cordero's spot. The Red Sox will learn more about Verdugo's status and were uncertain as to his availability Sunday, so Dalbec could slot in against right-hander Logan Gilbert.

Story hits 3 homers for Red Sox in 12-6 win over Mariners

Trevor Story had three homers, four hits and seven RBIs to help the Boston Red Sox rally from a four-run deficit to beat the Seattle Mariners 12-6
MAY 20, 2022 • Associated Press
In lineup against righty Dalbec started at first base and went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 11-3 win over Texas.
Impact Since Franchy Cordero was called up two weeks ago, Dalbec has sat against right-handed starters, but he was in the lineup Saturday against Glenn Otto while Cordero covered left field for the injured Alex Verdugo (foot). Dalbec hasn't hit pitchers of either hand very well in 2022. He had similar issues last season before getting hot over August and September. The Red Sox had thought Dalbec turned a corner then, but the struggles have continued this year.
