Impact After starting in each of the last three games while going 4-for-10 with a double, a run and an RBI, Roden will hit the bench along with fellow left-handed batter Will Wagner as the Nationals send southpaw MacKenzie Gore to the hill. Bichette gets tiebreaking hit in eighth, Blue Jays beat Nationals 5-3 for 3rd straight win

Bo Bichette hit a tiebreaking tworun single with two out in the eighth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays won their third straight game by beating the Washington Nationals 5-3
APRIL 2, 2025 • Associated Press
On base twice in MLB debut Roden went 1-for-2 with a walk in Thursday's loss to the Orioles.
Impact Hitting ninth and playing right field in his big-league debut, Roden led off the sixth inning with a single before working Keegan Akin for a free pass to lead off the eighth. It was an early glimpse of Roden's on-base skills, and if the Blue Jays struggle to generate offense early, it may not be long before the 25-year-old is moved up to the top of the order. Roden's role once Daulton Varsho (shoulder) comes off the IL remains uncertain, but the rookie made a strong first impression.

Starting in right field for opener The Blue Jays selected Roden's contract from Triple-A Buffalo on Thursday, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Impact Roden is drawing the start in right field and batting ninth in Thursday's opener against the Orioles. The Blue Jays are going with an outfield of Anthony Santander, George Springer and Roden on Opening Day.

Named to Opening Day roster Roden was informed Sunday that he has made the Blue Jays' Opening Day roster, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Impact Roden has impressed this spring with a pair of homers and twice as many walks (six) as strikeouts (three) in 19 Grapefruit League games. The Blue Jays have yet to officially add Roden to the 40-man roster, and his exact role with the big club is to be determined, but his on-base skills are particularly strong and could help him carve out semi-regular playing time in the Toronto outfield.

Could open season in majors Roden is firmly in the mix for a spot on the Blue Jays' Opening Day roster with Daulton Varsho (shoulder) set to begin the season on the injured list, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com re...
Impact The organization wants Roden, one of its top prospects, to get consistent playing time, but that might be possible in the majors for the first couple weeks of the year with Varsho needing a little more time to complete his recovery from shoulder surgery. Roden has had an outstanding camp at the plate, batting .391 (9-for-23) with a 6:3 K:BB, two doubles and two homers in 18 appearances, but he could be stretched defensively in center field. Nathan Lukes and Myles Straw are also candidates to help cover for Varsho in center, and two of that trio seem likely to be on Toronto's initial 26-man roster.

Making strong case in camp Roden went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's split-squad game against the Phillies.
Impact The 25-year-old took Tanner Banks deep in the sixth inning. Roden has been raking this spring, going 6-for-14 (.429) with four of his hits going for extra bases, two doubles and two homers. Perhaps more impressively, he's drawn four walks against zero strikeouts. There's no room in Toronto's Opening Day outfield for Roden, particularly if Daulton Varsho (shoulder) is ready to handle defensive duties by then, but he's positioning himself to be among the first players called up this season when the big-league roster needs reinforcements.
MARCH 9, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Flashes on-base skills Sunday Roden went 2-for-2 with a walk, two doubles, a run scored and an RBI in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Red Sox.
Impact Getting the start in left field and hitting fifth in a lineup with no projected Opening Day starters, Roden made a quick impact by lacing a two-bagger off Garrett Crochet to lead off the second inning. Roden would likely need an injury or two in the Blue Jays' outfield to begin the year on the 26-man roster, but the 25-year-old appears ready to make his big-league debut after slashing .314/.406/.510 over 70 games for Triple-A Buffalo in 2024.
FEBRUARY 24, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Knocking on door Roden was singled out by GM Ross Atkins as the Blue Jays prospect who could make the biggest impact this season, Keegan Matheson of MLB.com reports.
Impact In the past, the GM has diplomatically listed a number of names when asked this question at the beginning of camp, but this spring he didn't equivocate. "He's just done so much to put himself in a position to move through the system quickly," Atkins said, "with the way he goes about his job, the contact rates, the shape of his offense, the fact that [he's valuable] on both sides of the ball, his baserunning, stealing bases, he plays defense at a solid level, he's very physical with upside, the power. He's an exciting piece." The Anthony Santander signing blocked any chance Roden might have had to open the season on the big-league roster, but the 25-year-old could make his MLB debut later this year, especially if the Jays are having trouble filling their leadoff spot.
FEBRUARY 17, 2025 • ROTOWIRE
Power shows up at Triple-A Roden is slashing .316/.404/.509 with nine home runs, eight steals and a 14.3 percent strikeout rate in 68 games for Triple-A Buffalo.
Impact Roden turns 25 this offseason and will likely end up in left field, so he has no margin for error offensively. He has a career .298 average and .407 on-base percentage, but this run at Triple-A represents Roden's top power output (.192 ISO, .509 SLG are career bests) to date. Players with Roden's elite contact skill can sometimes be late bloomers in the power department, and he doesn't need to be added to the 40-man roster as Rule 5 draft protection until next offseason.
SEPTEMBER 17, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Plate skills shine at Double-A Roden slashed .310/.421/.460 with six home runs, nine steals and a 15.3 percent strikeout rate in 209 plate appearances with Double-A New Hampshire.
Impact The 23-year-old corner outfielder made strides as a power hitter at Double-A, logging a career-best .149 ISO and a career-high 34.0 percent flyball rate. Roden was also less passive, as his run at Double-A marked the first time he has had more strikeouts than walks. The lefty hitter clearly has excellent bat-to-ball skill and a keen eye at the plate, but given that he may end up in left field, Roden needs to continue to coax out more game power at Triple-A in 2024.
