Impact Kloffenstein missed the final two months of the 2024 season with a right shoulder injury, so it's certainly not ideal that he's still battling shoulder issues. However, the expectation is that he'll be ready to resume throwing in a few days. If healthy, Kloffenstein projects to open the 2025 season in the rotation at Triple-A Buffalo.

NRI deal with Toronto The Blue Jays signed Kloffenstein (shoulder) to a minor-league contract Tuesday that includes an invitation to spring training, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Impact Kloffenstein missed the final two months of the 2024 season with a right shoulder injury and was non-tendered by the Cardinals even though he was not yet eligible for arbitration. It's not clear what his health status is, but the Blue Jays felt good enough about the righty to invite him to camp. Kloffenstein was dealt from Toronto to St. Louis at the 2023 trade deadline as part of the return for Jordan Hicks.

He went 4-5 across 17 starts in Triple-A and posted a 4.74 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 73:41 K:BB across 89.1 innings.

Out with shoulder injury Kloffenstein was placed on the Triple-A Memphis' 7-day injured list Wednesday due to right shoulder discomfort, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Impact The right-hander made his major-league debut June 20 with a scoreless inning against San Francisco, but he's otherwise spent the campaign at Triple-A. Kloffenstein's shoulder is still being evaluated, so it's unclear how long he'll be sidelined.

Officially promoted The Cardinals recalled Kloffenstein from Triple-A Memphis on Thursday.

Impact After putting up a 3.97 ERA and 1.13 WHP through 77 innings at Triple-A, Kloffenstein will now come up from the minors to give St. Louis another multi-inning relief option in its bullpen. He'll take the place of Chris Roycroft, who was optioned to Memphis in a corresponding move.

Although he has been used almost exclusively as a starter throughout his minor-league career, he will likely be used as a multi-inning reliever while with St. Louis. The 23-year-old righty will be making his MLB debut whenever he gets into a game.

Impact Kloffenstein put himself back on the prospect radar in 2023 with a 3.24 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 105:34 K:BB across 89 innings (17 starts) at the Double-A level, and the Cardinals apparently liked what they have seen. The 22-year-old could move up to Triple-A before the end of the season and may not be far off from the big leagues.

Back on prospect radar Kloffenstein has a 2.31 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 46 strikeouts in 35 innings across seven starts for Double-A New Hampshire.

Impact The 6-foot-5 righty was a prospect of note several years ago before logging a WHIP north of 1.55 in over 100 innings in both 2021 and 2022. However, at 22, Kloffenstein is age-appropriate for Double-A and having a lot of success. He has been even more impressive over just his last five starts, during which he has a 1.29 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 38 strikeouts in 28 innings. His fastball has topped out around 95 mph this year, so there may not be as much upside as his stats indicate, but Kloffenstein's 55.8 percent groundball rate is a strong mark and he could someday pitch in the middle or back of a big-league rotation.
