Cubs break out of slump, slip by reeling Pirates 4-2
Jayy Baez hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the sixth inning and the Chicago Cubs’ struggling offense came to life in a 4-2 over Pittsburgh

Resting Wednesday
Frazier is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Impact
After a sizzling spring training, Frazier has largely struggled to keep the momentum going into the regular season. While leading off in the Pirates' first five games, Frazier has gone 3-for-18 with a triple, double, four walks and a stolen base. He still appears to be locked in as Pittsburgh's table setter, but Frazier will get a breather for the series finale Wednesday and cede leadoff duties to Kevin Newman.

Reaches base four times
Frazier went 2-for-4 with a double, two RBI, two walks and a run scored during Thursday's win over the Cubs.
Impact
Frazier created havoc at the top of the order, reaching base in four of his six plate appearances. He posted impressive numbers during spring training, slashing .488/.511/.860 in 45 plate appearances, and he's expected to remain as the Pirates' leadoff hitter going forward.

Hitting leadoff in opener
Frazier will bat leadoff and play second base in Thursday's opener at Wrigley Field.
Impact
He's 10-for-22 in his career with two doubles and two homers against the Cubs' Opening Day starter, Kyle Hendricks. Frazier also put together an amazing spring, slashing .488/.511/.860 in 45 spring plate appearances. As a result, fantasy owners might want to consider streaming Frazier on Opening Day.

Named leadoff hitter
Pirates manager Derek Shelton said Frazier will serve as the team's leadoff hitter in Thursday's regular-season opener against the Cubs, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Impact
Frazier has ignited a surprisingly potent Pirates offense this spring, posting a monstrous 1.510 OPS over 39 at-bats. The small sample shouldn't supersede the .749 OPS he's posted over parts of five seasons in the majors, but Frazier's spring surge could at least give fantasy managers reason to hope that the 29-year-old may have more power upside than anticipated. Frazier hasn't merely lived off an elevated BABIP this spring, as 10 of his 21 hits entering play Monday have gone for extra bases.

Hit parade on display
Frazier is 12-for-18 with one stolen base in six Grapefruit League games.
Impact
The career .273 hitter batted just .230 in 209 at-bats in 2020, setting himself up for a rebound season. Frazier will serve as the team's primary second baseman, but manager Derek Shelton hasn't ruled out the occasional move to outfield. The 29-year-old got a late start this spring due to a hamstring injury -- he didn't debut until March 7 -- but the results thus far have been pretty good.

Has good day at plate
Frazier (groin) went 2-for-3 with an infield single and an RBI double in Sunday's win over the Orioles.
Impact
Frazier legged out a ground ball to second base without re-injuring the groin muscle that kept him sidelined for the first week. While the 29-year-old eased his way back into the lineup as a designated hitter Sunday, he's expected to primarily play second base and occasionally move to the outfield. It wouldn't be surprising to see the team attempt to trade Frazier in the coming months as he's one of several options at second base and is set to make $4 million for the rebuilding Pirates.

Ready for first action this spring
Frazier (groin) will make his spring debut in Sunday's exhibition game against the Orioles.
Impact
Frazier sat out the first week of games due to his sore groin, but he is ready to take the field for the first time this spring. He will be limited to DH duty, but he will be able to maximize his at-bats, as he will man the leadoff spot in Sunday's contest.

Still waiting to make spring debut
Frazier (groin) is not in the lineup for Saturday's spring game against the Yankees, according to Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic.
Impact
Frazier tweaked his groin in late February, and the injury has prevented him from seeing any action through the first week of spring games. It remains to be seen when he will take the field, but at this point it still seems likely he will be ready for Opening Day.

Dealing with minor knock
Frazier is absent from workouts for the second straight day Friday with an groin injury, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Impact
Manager Derek Shelton said Frazier was "a little dinged up" but didn't specify exactly when the injury occurred. This doesn't sound like anything more than normal wear and tear, and he still has more than a month to prepare for Opening Day, so there doesn't seem to be much reason to worry.

Penciled in as starter at keystone
Frazier was named the Pirates' starting second baseman Monday, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.
Impact
Frazier started 40 games at second base last season as well as 13 more in left field. His .230/.297/.364 slash line was rather unimpressive, but the Pirates aren't exactly loaded with talent at the big-league level right now. Erik Gonzalez, Kevin Newman and Cole Tucker are the team's top alternatives at second base, with someone among that group likely to start at shortstop in most games.
