Inks minors deal with Seattle Engel signed a minor-league contract Tuesday with the Mariners, Mike Curto of the Tacoma Rainiers reports.

Impact Engel has already reported to Triple-A Tacoma and is in the starting lineup Tuesday night against the Triple-A affiliate of the Giants. The 31-year-old outfielder was released by the Padres last week, having spent most of his time with that organization stuck in recovery mode from a March hamstring strain.

Engels appeared in just five games with the Padres, and the outfielder didn't pick up a hit in his six at-bats in those contests. If he goes unclaimed, Engel could report back to Triple-A El Paso to provide some depth.

Impact Engel ended up missing well over a month with his hamstring strain. The outfielder will take the place of Jose Azocar with Azocar placed on the 10-day IL with left elbow inflammation. Engel should operate as a backup outfielder now that he's back on the roster.

Impact Engel dealt with a calf strain early on in camp and has been plagued by hamstring problems the last few years. It's not clear at this point how long this one might sideline him, but he might have been in line for some playing time early with Fernando Tatis (suspension) unavailable for the first few weeks and Juan Soto (oblique) potentially sidelined as well.
