Impact Schunk had moved into a regular role, at least in the short term with Ezequiel Tovar (hip) on the shelf. Back in 2024, Schunk saw the bulk of his work at third base and second base, but with Tovar out, Schunk received all seven of his starts at shortstop. Kyle Farmer and Adael Amador should handle the middle-infield duties until Tovar and or Schunk are healthy.

Impact Schunk will take the spot on the 26-man roster vacated by Ezequiel Tovar (hip), who was placed on the 10-day IL in a corresponding move. Schunk opted to stay with the Rockies in the minors after being DFA'd in mid-February, and in Triple-A he is slashing .283/.353/.435 with one stolen base, one home run and 10 RBI in 52 plate appearances. Schunk could see some starts in the infield with Tovar, Tyler Freeman (oblique) and Thairo Estrada (wrist) all on the IL.

Impact The transaction frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Scott Alexander, who was signed Wednesday. Schunk managed just a .595 OPS in 39 games with the Rockies in 2024, but he can play all over the infield and has minor-league options, so he could draw interest via trade or waivers.
