Fitzpatrick goes from disappointment to winning at Valspar Championship

One week after his disappointment from a runner-up finish at Sawgrass, Matt Fitzpatrick has put it behind him with a win at the Valspar Championship

Drops to T4 at Valspar Championship Im carded a three-over 74 in the final round of the Valspar Championship to finish tied for fourth with Xander Schauffele and Marco Penge.

Impact Im got off to a roaring start with a seven-under 64 first round, opening Thursday by going four-under through the first three holes and ending with two eagles, five birdies and three bogeys. He followed that up with back-to-back two-under 69 rounds to enter Sunday with a two-stroke lead over Brandt Snedeker and David Lipsky. However, Im lost his hold at the top of the leaderboard after going five-over through the first 10 holes, including back-to-back bogeys on holes two and three. He was able to sneak back into the top-5 thanks to birdies on holes 11 and 16, and while it was a lost opportunity for Im, he still came away with his best PGA Tour finish since The Sentry in January of 2025 (solo third). Im ranked T4 in birdies made, sixth in SG: Putting, 15th in SG: Around-the-Green and 25th in SG: Approach, but he struggled off the tee, ranking 58th in SG: Off-the-Tee and T69 in driving accuracy. He is in the field for the Texas Children's Houston Open next week, where he's made the cut in all three of his prior outings and finished 60th in 2025.

Impact Im's wrist injury has kept him sidelined from tournament competition since a T42 at last October's Genesis Championship on the DP World Tour, but he's slated to make his 2026 debut this week at Bay Hill where he's never placed worse than T21 across seven career appearances. Im closed out his 2025 campaign ranked second on the PGA Tour in SG: Around-the-Green, but he fell outside the top-170 in SG: Approach, proximity and GIR percentage.

Nursing wrist injury Im is dealing with a wrist injury and is hopeful to return for the Arnold Palmer Invitational, which runs from March 5-8, Kim Jaeho of the Maeil Business Newspaper reports.

Impact Im reportedly suffered the injury at some point in January while swinging, and he's yet to participate in a tournament yet this year. His initial plan was to take part in The Genesis Invitational, but the golfer decided to push off his 2026 debut until March after further evaluation by his medical team. Expect confirmation on Im's status for the Arnold Palmer Invitational closer to the tournament.

Impact Im's bogey-free final round at Yokohama Country Club was highlighted by a streak of three birdies on the front nine, and he converted all five of his scrambling opportunities on the day. From a week-long perspective, Im ranked sixth or better among the field in both SG: Approach and GIR percentage en route to 20 total birdies across 72 holes.
