Makes things interesting at Genesis
Kitayama fired a seven-under 64 in the final round of The Genesis Invitational to finish tied with Rory McIlroy for second behind winner Jacob Bridgeman.
Impact
Kitayama gave himself a steep hill to climb after going even-par in the first round. He responded by going 64-68 over the next two rounds but still found himself eight shots behind Bridgeman for the clubhouse lead. However, Bridgeman wasn't able to increase his lead Sunday, which gave Kitayama and others an outside chance of catching the former. Kitayama went three-under on the front nine and carded back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11. He had two chances to tie Bridgeman at the top of the leaderboard, but Kitayama barely missed his eagle putt on the par-5 17th hole and his birdie putt on the par-4 18th. Kitayama ranked second in the field in both SG: Off-the-Tee and SG: Approach-to-Green, T5 in birdies made and top-15 in SG: Putting, driving accuracy, scrambling and GIR. It was his best finish of the 2026 Tour season and his best outing since his victory at the 3M Open in July. Kitayama will take a week off before teeing off at the Arnold Palmer Invitational on March 5.

Impact

He ranked 11th in the field in SG: Off the Tee and T17 in GIR, though he finished near the bottom in SG: Around-the-Green, losing 4.74 strokes in that category. Kitayama is in the field next week for The Genesis Invitational, where he finished T39 in his last outing in 2024.

Takes victory in Twin Cities
Kitayama fired a six-under 65 in the final round to win the 3M Open by one stroke over Sam Stevens.
Impact
Kitayama surged into contention with an 11-under 60 in the third round. He kept that momentum going early on Sunday with birdies on six of his first eight holes. Kitayama held firm control of this throughout the day, but things tightened up a bit late with a bogey on the par-3 17th to reduce the gap to one. Fortunately, Kitayama would only need to make par on the par-5 18th to close it out. He did a nice job avoiding all the water up the right of 18 and was able to tap in for par. Kitayama now has his second PGA Tour win and first since the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational. He came into the week at 110th in the FedExCup, but now moves up to 53rd and will be in the postseason. This is Kitayama's third straight top-15 finish after a terrible start to the year and he will have to be one to watch over the last month of the PGA Tour season. Kitayama is listed in the field for the Wyndham Championship next week.
