MC after dreadful Friday
Spieth posted a seven-over 79 in the second round of the Memorial Tournament to miss the cut by one stroke.
Impact
Spieth opened the tournament with a one-under 71 and was one of 22 players (out of the field of 72) to score under-par in the first round. However, it was a completely different story for him on Friday after going five-over on the front nine of the second round. Spieth was still on track to make the five-over cut line until his tee shot on the par-3 16th found the water, resulting in a double bogey that he could not recover from across the final two holes of the day. He lost a whopping 5.16 strokes in his approach play in the second round and went just 7-for-18 (38.9 percent) on GIR. It was just the second time in 15 tournaments this season that Spieth failed to make it to the weekend, with his first MC taking place at the WM Phoenix Open in early February. He won't tee off at the RBC Canadian Open next week, so Spieth's next appearance will be at the U.S. Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills in two weeks. He missed the cut the last time the U.S. Open was hosted at Shinnecock in 2018 and finished T23 in last year's major.

Sunk by poor third round
Spieth finished T19 at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson with a 15-under cumulative score.
Impact
Spieth surged up the leaderboard with a bogey-free, nine-under 62 score that included seven consecutive birdies. However, in a low-scoring tournament, he was sunk by a poor third round, finishing with a two-over 73 that included four bogeys from holes 10 to 14. Spieth jumped up 20 spots Sunday with a five-under 66, but it could be seen as a rather disappointing performance given the weakened field at TPC Craig Ranch. He finished the tournament fourth in birdies made, T17 in driving distance and 21st in SG: Putting, though was middle-of-the-pack across all other SG categories. Spieth is not listed in the field for the Charles Schwab Challege, so the next time he tees off will likely be in two weeks at the Memorial Tournament.
