Undergoes thumb surgery Knapp announced via his personal X account that he underwent surgery last week to repair a ligament in his left thumb.
Impact Knapp remains without a clear return timetable following the Aug. 25 surgery, but the original thumb injury can be traced all the way back to his WD ahead of late April's Cadillac Championship. He was ultimately sidelined for two months between a T74 at the RBC Heritage and a missed cut at the U.S. Open, but he still managed to qualify for the BMW Championship after tying for seventh earlier this month at the FedEx St. Jude Championship. Through 17 total PGA Tour starts in 2026, Knapp owns six top-10 finishes and a top-20 ranking in SG: Approach.

Strong finish in St. Louis not enough Knapp posted a five-under 65 in the final round of the BMW Championship to finish tied for 40th.
Impact Knapp entered the week fighting to move into the top-30 of the FedExCup Standings for a spot in next week's TOUR Championship. He opened the tournament with a three-under 67, but any hopes of a strong finish were dashed by a six-over 76 third round, though his performance in the final round made his overall score look more respectable. Knapp finished T13 in birdies made and 24th in SG: Off-the-Tee, but he lost 3.18 strokes with his putter, which ranked 41st out of the 50-man field in St. Louis. Now that he's eliminated from playoff contention, Knapp's next chance to play on the PGA Tour is the Biltmore Championship on Sept. 17, though he could opt to take an extended break to allow his left thumb and wrist injuries more time to heal.
AUGUST 24 • ROTOWIRE
T7 at St. Jude Championship Knapp posted a six-under cumulative score at the FedEx St. Jude Championship to finish in a five-way share of seventh.
Impact Knapp opened the tournament with a five-under 65 first round, when he started and ended his day with three consecutive birdies. However, he gained only one stroke over the next three days, ending his tournament with a two-over 72 final round, when he carded one double bogey, three bogeys and three birdies. Knapp finished the tournament seventh in both bogeys and SG: Off-the-Tee, 12th in SG: Approach, 14th in SG: Around and T18 in GIR. However, he also lost 2.07 strokes with his putter, which ranked 51st out of 69 players in the field at TPC Southwind. Knapp is up to 35th in the FedExCup Standings heading into next week's BMW Championship, and he'll need to crack the top-30 in order to qualify for the TOUR Championship in two weeks.

Misses cut after shaky second round Knapp posted a one-over 71 in the second round of the Rocket Classic to miss the cut by one stroke.
Impact Knapp ended the first round strongly by going four-under over his last five holes with three birdies, a bogey and an eagle. He was three-under heading into Friday, but he put himself in a hole by going four-over in his first seven holes with two bogeys and a double, which he was unable to overcome over his last 11 holes. Knapp has missed the cut in four of his last six tournaments, with the exceptions being a T55 at the Travelers Championship and a T13 at last week's 3M Open, when it looked like he turned a corner after a nine-under 62 final round. The next time Knapp will tee off is in two weeks for the playoff opener at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

Catapults to T13 after Sunday 62 Knapp fired a nine-under 62 in the final round of the 3M Open to finish tied with Zac Blair and Billy Horschel for 13th.
Impact Knapp was sitting at seven-under heading into Sunday, but he caught on fire on the back nine of the final round. He carded seven-straight birdies from holes 10 to 16 before adding another on the par-5 18th, and his score of 28 on the back nine tied the course record at TPC Twin Cities. Knapp led the field in SG: Approach in the final round and ranked third in that category for the tournament, as well as fourth in driving distance, ninth in SG: Off-the-Tee and T10 in GIR. It was an encouraging performance for Knapp, who entered the week having finished T55 or worse in each of his five prior outings, including missed cuts at the U.S. Open, Scottish Open and The Open Championship. He'll tee off next week at the Rocket Classic, where he finished T31 in 2024 and T4 last year.

Misses another cut Knapp missed the cut by one stroke at The Open Championship following a one-over 71 second round.
Impact Knapp was right on the one-over cut line through the first eight holes of the second round. However, he proceeded to card bogeys on the ninth, 14th and 15th holes, and his back-to-back birdies on holes 17 and 18 were not enough for him to qualify for the weekend. Knapp ranked 35th in SG: Around over the first two days of the tournament but also ranked 123rd in SG: Putting. He's missed the cut in three of his four tournaments since returning from a two-month absence due to a left thumb injury, with his T55 at the Travelers Championship in late June being the exception. Knapp is currently listed in the field for next week's 3M Open, where he finished T3 in 2025.

Struggles on and around green Knapp missed the cut at the Genesis Scottish Open by four strokes following an even-par 70 in the second round.
Impact Knapp put himself in a hole with a two-under 72 in the opening round and was unable to make up enough ground Friday to qualify for the weekend. He was one of the better iron players at The Renaissance Club, gaining 2.82 strokes in his approach play while connecting on 25 of 36 greens in regulation. However, most of Knapp's struggles came on and around the green, as he lost 3.53 strokes around the green and lost another 2.62 strokes with his putter. He's finished T74-MC-T55-MC over his last four tournaments, and it's possible that Knapp's thumb injury that sidelined him for two months is still bothering him. He's listed in the field for The Open Championship next week, which will be his first appearance at golf's oldest major.

Cannot overcome poor first round Knapp finished tied for 55th at the Travelers Championship after posting a six-under cumulative score.
Impact Knapp opened the tournament poorly with a four-over 74 on Thursday. He shot under-par over the final three days -- including a six-under 64 on Saturday -- but he still finished outside the top-50 on the leaderboard. He ranked 66th in SG: Off-the-Tee and 54th in SG: Approach, losing 4.55 strokes across those two categories, though he also finished T22 in SG: Putting. Knapp has finished MC-T55 in his two tournaments since returning from a two-month absence due to a thumb injury. He's not listed in the field for next week's John Deere Classic but will tee off in two weeks at the Genesis Scottish Open, where he finished T22 in his debut at the event last year.

Remains listed in U.S. Open field Knapp (thumb) is listed in the field for this week's U.S. Open.
Impact Knapp has been sidelined since tying for 74th at the RBC Heritage in mid-April due to a thumb injury, but he's hopeful to return this week at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club for what would be his third career U.S. Open appearance. Given his early WDs from more recent events, Knapp's status should continue to be monitored ahead of Thursday's first-round tee times.

Giving it a go at the Memorial Knapp (thumb) is listed in the field for the Memorial Tournament this week.
Impact Knapp has been battling a thumb injury that he suffered prior to the Cadillac Championship. His last start was a T74 back at the RBC Heritage in mid-April. Knapp has been listed in the field a couple times since only to withdraw on Tuesday or Wednesday, so keep an eye out for that. It's a shame he's dealing with this because the golf has been so strong this season with seven top-11 finishes.
