Medalist in Columbus Van Rooyen earned a spot in this years U.S. Open after going 13-under par Monday in the U.S Open Final Qualifying event in Columbus.
Impact The Columbus final qualifying site hosted a number of top PGA Tour stars, with names like Max Homa, Rickie Fowler and Cameron Young all attempting to qualify for this years U.S. Open. However, it was Van Rooyen whose name came out on top when the final putt was made Monday evening. In this two qualifying rounds, Van Rooyen made a total of 14 birdies, including four straight birdies in his last five holes to close out his final round. In fact Van Rooyen only dropped shots on three of his 36 holes. This resulted not only in Van Rooyen qualifying for the U.S. Open, but he earned medalist honors as he finish a top the leaderboard of this star studded field. The result comes as a little bit of a surprise as Van Rooyen has been hot and cold with his play this season. Coming into this qualifier, Van Rooyen had competed in 15 PGA Tour events, making the cut in only eight of those events, but collecting two top-10s in his other seven events. He will now try to replicate his play at Oakmont next week.

Impact It was a tale of two tournaments for van Rooyen, who had rounds of 75 and 74 on Thursday and Saturday but went low on Friday with a 64 and then posted the low round of the day Sunday to climb 37 spots on the leaderboard. He was led by his driving play where he ranked 10th in SG: Off-the-tee for the tournament. van Rooyen has a pair of top-10s since March.

Best in class at Byron Nelson van Rooyen fired an eight-under 63 in the final round of THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson to finish in a share of second place.
Impact van Rooyen shot rounds of 66-67-65-63 this week at TPC Craig Ranch and finished eight strokes off the lead. That's just how dominant Scottie Scheffler was. van Rooyen was best in class and beat the rest of the field by three strokes himself. The South African has to be very happy with how he played and he would have landed his third PGA Tour win pretty much any other week after he gained over 15 strokes on the field. This runner-up finish was just his second top-25 of the year. van Rooyen will move up from 130th to 53rd in the FedExCup standings and he will earn entry into a signature event next week in the Truist Championship via the Aon Swing 5.
